Printed colour postcard showing the Cromlech Pentre Ifan in Sir Benfro, Cymru. Published by N.P.O. Belfast Ltd of Belfast, № W1209 - 55918C. Postally unused, but is c.1960s.

A printed semi-modern colour postcard showing the Pentre Ifan Portal Tomb, otherwise known as Coetan Arthur or Arthur's Quoit, a dolmen close to Brynberian near Newport in Pembrokeshire or Sir Benfro. The monument stands in a field of short grass with a line of trees in the middle distance. In the distance rises, I think, Mynydd Carningli or Carn Ingli.

I've collected most things at some stage in my life: stamps, bus tickets, banknotes, newspapers, books, and, of course, images. At one point, I acquired quite a collection of old share certificates. The beauty of these is not that I might have a small stake in some defunct American power and light company, but the glorious illustrations that feature on the stock certificates.

There is something strangely modern about this photograph from the studio of the Hebden Bridge photographer, Crossley Westerman. It probably dates from the period following the First World War when the studio was run by Westerman's daughter, Ada, and the young Alice Longstaff. I'm not sure how I acquired the photo, but I like to call it "The Lady and the Dachshund".
