I’ve actually been a half-frame film camera lover for years. At some point, an Olympus Pen EES-2 landed in my collection and it was love at first sight.

But, like many stories of love, the very old camera let me down (it broke). So I started looking for another one… again and again. Then came the new wave of love for analog photography, and suddenly the Pen turned into a little cult camera. Prices shot up, and everyone who still had one lying in a drawer suddenly thought they owned a treasure.
At one point I had eight of them, all broken.
A promising British repairman said he could fix them, but he asked a lot of money, customs fees added to that, and in the end the two he repaired for me were broken again within a week. One of them even right out of the box after repair.
So I had enough and went looking for an alternative. That turned out to be the Pentax 17. I’ve been using it for a year now, so I’ve formed an opinion… But at least it means I can keep shooting half-frame film.
One of the first pictures I took with my Pentax 17.
#summer is coming to an end I guess.
