They’re supposed to be resurfacing our neighbourhood this week. They started the bottom of our road yesterday and nobody is allowed to park 8am-4pm, which is fine because D takes the car to work.
They were meant to be doing outside the house today except nobody has showed up.

Oh well. How often can you take photos of a mostly car-less street?

I factory reset my camera and some of the issues seem to have gone away.
New ones may have appeared in their place.

@crazybutable @greem one out of two definitely seems to last longer. I’ve not noticed any difference in misbehaving but to be fair I’ve not been keeping track.

Thinking about it, it is currently the “better” battery in there but I guess that’s not saying much. I know the thing in the camera that helps retain the date and time is also gone (and apparently not replaceable) so I have to enter it every time I switch batteries. I knew she had some quirks when I got her but I was hoping it was mostly minor.

@greem I have bought a cleaning kit off eBay but I’m not sure I have the confidence yet to go sticking things places. It’s my first camera and I’ve only had it for a month or so.
I have two batteries, both are definitely not new and I’ve noticed one lasts a lot less than the other so that’s certainly a possibility.

It seems like my camera maybe poorly.

It’s really hard when you’re completely new to this stuff because how can you know if a problem is something you just don’t understand, something you’ve done/caused or a genuine behaviour that is abnormal to the device.

But it has got to a point where I’m really worried it’s the latter.

So I’m going to describe it in the hopes that someone can tell me it’s something I can fix and not “your camera’s fucked”.

I have an Olympus E510. It has a dust reduction function (SSWF) which means it goes BRR when you turn it on. There’s a blue light that flickers when it’s doing it.

It’s been doing it more and more while I’m just using the camera. Usually when switching modes, which I thought was normal at first, but it’s not consistent so I don’t know.

Now it’s just doing it randomly and the screen goes blank and the camera is completely unresponsive. Sometimes it eventually reboots itself, sometimes I have to turn it off and back on. Sometimes I just lightly touch the mode dial and it comes back to life. A couple of times it’s been unresponsive but the card busy light will be flashing - I don’t know if that’s related or a separate issue. It does it with both the cards I have.

The manual has been no help and neither has Google.

Please someone tell me it’s something I’ve done / need to do and not some expensive fault that means I don’t have a camera? 🥺
