I keep thinking about that Rick & Morty psych quote. And I realize there's actually more to it.

It’s not just that maintenance is boring; it’s an infinite task with diminishing returns.
The better you do it, the less visible the result. It feels like a tax on the time you could be spending on actual living.

We let things get bad not for drama, but because that’s the only time the effort feels proportional to the impact.

The struggle is doing work where the best outcome is that nothing happens

An intense stare from this young yellow-eyed Ruru in a blue towel tells us he has seen Some Stuff.

A little warmer today, around 10ºC, & lots of these common forest wolf spiders (Pardosa lugubris) scampering around in the dead garden leaves.

And before I'm asked, no, I don't CW pictures of spiders or any other arthropods that I photograph. I know that may upset arachnophobes, but I personally think we need to (learn to) embrace spiders for the marvels they are 🤷‍♂️
