And on another note, I have had to completely remove and re-upload theouterlinux.gitlab.io do to too many pipleine errors; this has been going on for nearly half a year. If you have not visited in a while, you may want to. Links to TONS of recommended software for 32-bit Mac OS X and game consoles have been added. Game console software may refer to actually running on the console itself in many cases.

Also, if you have on older OS, please give "http://" a try to see if it works and let me know.

If anyone has noticed the JavaScript runtime warnings for 'yt-dlp' on a GNU/Linux system, the easiest fix, if you already have 'nodjs' installed, is to create the following file...

"~/.yt-dlp/config.txt"

...with the following contents...

--js-runtimes node --remote-components ejs:github

And yes, it starts with "--" and nothing else beforehand. You do not need anything else afterwards either unless you know what you are doing.

@ajroach42
Look up 'ytfzf'. It is a command-line way to search YouTube and you do not need an API key.

@ajroach42 Any particular reason, other than perhaps "legalities" that a Raspberry Pi 4 or newer with RetroPi installed is not an option? I have even tried RetroPi on a Pi Zero and it did okay with everything up to and including PS1, but N64 emulation on a Pi Zero was not great. But to be fair, the PS1 games I tried on it played just fine using a wireless SNES controller; things like FF7 or RoadRash 3D. It is best to find controllers that are either cabled or do not use Bluetooth for easier time

If anyone needs another reason to use over , all-be-it "odd" but cool, someone out there released a version of Godot 3.6.1.rc for OS X 10.5 (Leopard).

It does not include templates, but you can copy an installed "3.6.stable" folder over to "/Users/[username]/Library/Application Support/Godot/templates" and rename it to "3.6.1.rc" and change the "version.txt" file contents.

I tested this on a 32-bit Intel Macbook with Snow Leopard (10.6) installed.

@hkz Maybe this will help? theouterlinux.gitlab.io/Softwa

I also have more console-related stuff here... theouterlinux.gitlab.io/Softwa

Most of the software listed is meant to actually run on the game console. However, much of the development software requires a computer.

It also turns out that Lua may be the easiest and most cross-platform way of game creation for computers and consoles unless you count the very large number of GB/GBC emulators available for just about everything.

@bbbbbr Yes. Thank you for this wonderful tool. It saves me a lot of time, not having to rely on GB Studio's tile counter. :)

I have been practicing creating/converting images for use with GB Studio with the goal of meeting the 192 or less 8x8 unique tiles so as to also be able to layer other things, such as sprites and audio.

@hkz If you have a FAT model, you could go up to 2TB. There is a list compatibility online somewhere... I am not sure about a 2TB SD drive though... A moving parts SATA works just fine, though you can hear it immediately stop every time you turn it off and it is a little concerning. Also, if you pause a game long enough, OPL (assuming) will freeze the hard drive. When you resume, you will see it "glitch" for a moment and you will need to unplug and plug the controller back in to stop spinning.

Also, and Linux are mentioned in season 8, episode 5 at around the 4:00 minute mark, but imply that they are languages.

@w84death I like DeaDBeef; it even plays BAM files (Bobs Adlib).

I think it would only take the disappearance of five commands/programs/libraries to make most people not find much use for computers or smart phones...

1. echo
2. ffmpeg
3. ImageMagick
4. SDL
5. curl

As far as file-formats go, maybe about ten?...

1. Plain-text files (most obvious)
2. PDF
3. JPEG
4. MP3
5. MP4
6. SQL
7. PLIST (can be binary)
8. ZIP
9. WAV
10. Digital certificate files

And let's be honest, the "everything is a database" philosophy is getting out-of-hand.

@dosnostalgic I think out of all of the older books I have looked at, the "BBC Microcomputer User Guide" by John Coll is the most well put together for the time period.

TheOuterLinux ✅TheOuterLinux

It is not the first time I have completed the Oregon Trail. The other names are historical in case anyone was wondering. Also, there is a pure-text version for the BBC Micro.

If anyone is trying to use an older version of , such as 2.79b,
and it crashes when you select an object every time and are using a
64-bit GNU/Linux system, try using the 32-bit (i686) version; it seems
to help.

@dosnostalgic You are not alone; when I see "PEEK" and "POKE," I get anxiety too.

I have MacPorts and Fink listed as recommended software, but I do not actually plan to use them myself.

TheOuterLinux ✅TheOuterLinux
2024-02-06

Oh, and if anyone wants to make suggestions for Snow Leopard, please do not give suggestions related to or requiring MacPorts or Homebrew. What I have listed so far assumes downloading software to a USB hard drive using another operating system and then transferring and installing the files with no Internet connection what so ever on the Mac machine.
