I like all this self hosted stuff. Makes me want to learn programming more. Such as compressing my images and videos on immich. As immich developer philosophy is to never touch the original pics to not tamper with them. But my dad sometimes takes RAW. DNG files on his iphone which is alot of storage. Would love to write a script to go in and compress it, in a way that doesn't break immich.

Also for privacy. I feel like texting is an extension of your mouth, pic and videos is an extension of your eyes, and googling and writing down ideas and notes is an extension of your mind, etc...

So it makes sense to protect those things in a world were Google and companies who exploit us for ad revenue and governments tapping those companies.

Oh, cool beans 🫘. Ive so far used all that software you mentioned besides seeding on my computer. Yeah I'm a leach. It was only 1 thing I torrented so far. (If this is ever used against me I'm talking about Linux ISO rn). Seems scary to torrent on my home sever and get some VPN going to protect me. Learned that mullvad stopped port forwarding or something, making it harder to use their service. Not exactly and expert or researched this yet.

What's the difference between openmediavault and jellyfin. Or if it's not too personal, what are you storing there. Jellyfin is more for shows and movies for me.

Also do you have signal or telogram? Would you like to chat on there about NAS? I got some questions to ask about the VPN. I also use Tailscale but I've having such trouble trying to share my NAS with my friends. I'm thinking of using NetBird VPN. Also need to figure out how to NGix (I think it's called) reverse proxy where I can use a website URL on my home server and encrypt with SSL.

On January 30, the EU Council voted to endorse a two-year extension of "Chat Control 1.0". This is a significant setback. If passed, it legalizes the mass scanning of private messages and photos by US tech giants using error-prone AI, without any suspicion of crime. It also paves the way for mandatory ID verification (ending anonymity) and effectively bans anyone under 17 from using messaging apps. potentially preventing them from even chatting with their own parents.

However, the fight is not over.

The Council's vote is not the final word. Under EU legislative procedures, the European Parliament must also agree to the extension. Right now, the power to stop this lies with the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE).

They are deliberating this week to set the Parliament's position before the current regulation expires in April. If the LIBE Committee stands firm and rejects the extension, this mass surveillance regime can still be stopped.

We must act now to influence their decision.

Please do not stay silent. Contact the LIBE Committee members. Tell them to reject the extension of the Regulation and to defend our fundamental right to privacy.

We need targeted, judicial solutions, not a permanent state of mass surveillance.

I did look at Facebook market place, Craigslist, and EBay as I know they are throwing away decent computers as workplaces upgrade to Windows 11. But I did instead buy the parts couple months ago. I should have, but I thought I would regret something.

But now I'm running TrueNas and using portainer to manage my docker instances. Doing this for the first time, Chatgpt helped me understand some errors, but end result is I'm very happy. Got Jellyfin, immich, and more running on it. Very happy :blobfoxcheer:
