Interested in #HPC for clinical (electronic health records) and bioinformatic (sequencing) research.
In perpetual student mode (in 2024 this means lots of #OpenMP, #OpenMPI and #Fortran!)

@hattom AOCL without the lapack (which is effectively BLIS). I had ti compile flame (which AOCL compiles as a separate library) and AOCL together into a single one for flexiblas , otherwise the latter defaulted to netlib or atlas.
I will run the test on the EPYC we have, because I am really curious now!

The plot thickens #BLAS #rstats #lapack
(When one is about to rip through 10s of millions of medical records, one must profile the tools if the project is to finish before one's retirement)
FlexiBLAS makes this benchmarks a breeze

I wonder if the #lapack that comes with #AOCL is being picked up by flexiblas in #rstats.

One of the benefits of #LLMs when used as information retrieval systems and not as slop generators is that one can discover things that are skipped in formal curricula eg I would never have run into Buckingham's work without Grok's hallucinations

So Ars Technica "wrote" an "article" about the "AI" bot instructed to puke some slop pretending to be discriminated against, and the Ars article contained "comments" from a developer that were not in the linked article, and were, in fact, entirely made up, 99% likely by "AI", possibly because the Ars author instructed the "AI" to summarize the linked article, and now Ars has deleted the "article" and comments?

How ever could this happen to a for-profit website owned by a giant media conglomerate who also sold their content rights to "AI" companies? It will always remain a mystery.

With this wave of autogenerated #AI code coming at us, I can't help thinking about the next evolution of the phrase "... to really foul things up requires a computer."

Is #PETSc the largest collection of distributed linear solvers in c?

It is insane to think that the overwhelming majority (if not all) of flexible/semiparametric/"other word of hype" data analysis methods is just glorified Principal Component Analysis with an automated procedure to filter or smooth the scree plot. 💪 #PCA

The amount of garbage findings in the literature out there due to the insensitivity of checks for rank deficiency using the QR decomposition through #lapack must be quite high.
One could be regressing y against x and a clone of x and not even realize it for some high value statistical models

There is actually no system that *reliably* eliminates hallucinations in these statistical systems that are best thought of as Bloom filters over large vector databases.

Remember it takes only one critical failure to lose street credo and this is going to be the Thermopylae of people who hope to use these tools to circumvent the lack of any experience or domain familiarity

So if you are asking me how things may play out with and here is a partially informed opinion: domain experts with some coding knowledge or coding experts with some domain knowledge will absolutely rock this. Everyone else will be screwed for different reasons:
1) domain experts without any coding knowledge will eat the humblepie of coding hallucinations and
2) coding experts without any domain knowledge will be humiliated by domain hallucinations

Regarding : I am writing a demo code (in ) for a statistical paper and I needed to write some linear algebra stuff (I barely use R for this, so I don't keep that part of the language in working memory). Even with the chatbots having scrubbed all the linear algebra books there were still issues getting the *algorithms correctly*. But once I gave it the algorithms it did ok (except when it reversed the order of matrix multiplication lol).

Probably from a library , original 1971 edition (published two years before I was born!) and one of the very good (?best) and clear books written on the topic of #linearmodels
