Probably software continues to run, but isn't updated continuously - because it just works.
E.g. my OpenWRT 23.05.5 router is working, but it may or may not have exploitable issues, that have been patched in e.g. 23.05.6 or 24.10.x.
Or one of my webservers is running on Ubuntu 18.04. - which is way past it's best before date, but I'm in the process of moving that webhost, which I haven't carved out time for.

@manawyrm That's the unfortunate part: I don't have any other VPS providers I want to use so … there's that (also, I could imagine any other VPS/Cloud compute provider has the same issue).
Fortunately, I have a workaround (for now). Let's see what's first - municipality finally getting their FTTH network up and handed to EWE, or the Cloudflare Warp-tunnel workaround ceasing to provide a better service than my Hetzner VPS.

Or Mediamarkt/Saturn immediately bring up a Captcha, when coming from the Hetzner VPS.

Confirmed.
Measurable latency across one month of runtime, and consistent 12% packet loss on average over a month is insane.
The top most IP is the DNS server as advertised by DTAG, orange are Cloudflare targets, and gray are separate VPS of mine.

Is it good? I don't know yet, previously I've routed everything through #Hetzner, and some sites did block that ASN.
Same policy-based routing as always - mark CF-IP ranges, and send them through Wireguard.
Was a very steep hill, but it somehow worked out.
