For the last few years I've been running a proxy of the BBC News RSS feeds (https://bbc-feeds.danq.dev) that strips out duplicate content, non-news content, and (optionally) sports news.
This weekend, for the first time, somebody asked if it could produce an edition that included only the sports content. Which turned out to be slightly more difficult, because it's the kind of scope-creep that my "uninterested-in-sports-news" brain couldn't conceive that anybody would want! But I got there in the end.
If anybody's looking for their fill of "BBC News Feeds... But Better!", give it a look.

Tip #740
Use Vivaldi Feed Reader without enabling the mail and calendar clients.
If you’re settled with other ways than using Vivaldi Mail and Calendar to manage your emails and events, but still want to make use of the Feed Reader, you can enable only one of the clients in our productivity features trio.
To enable Feeds:
If you're looking for a diverse startpage for your #web browser with lots of content from the #IndieWeb, here are a few sites that I think work well as a go-to when you're craving content, with a small chance of ending up #DoomScrolling.

What would be the perfect desktop RSS application?
I've recently gotten back into one of my projects where I'm trying to build an #RSS reader with Rust & Iced
Things are coming together nicely since that last post...
- Items are now properly stored in a DB and actually retrieved for display
- I've written a module that parses description/content areas to build the layout (this was HARD!)
- It seems to work well with many feeds I'm testing out.
I really just need to get to the grind of completing it and adding the necessary features. But I'd love feedback from fellow open web enjoyers.
If you have any thoughts on must-have features I'd love to hear them.
My current dream list is:
- First-class #Tor & #I2P support with other options configurable (**I would really like suggestions on how to handle this well)
- Full text search (to be useful as a personal search engine)
- Import from FreshRSS (for entirely selfish reasons)
- Discovery features: the plan is to setup a way to discover feeds that your feeds link to.
Tip of the day: A fantastic way to get news in an organized, clear form, and be able to read them in one place, is #RSS. We support #RSS, too, and provide feeds for our blog and forum, so that you can get news and conversations about us and our products in your feed reader at your convenience. Here is, how that works. #socialmedia #tipoftheday #workflow https://www.devontechnologies.com/blog/20230314-news-via-rss
Celebrating 20 Years of Vienna RSS
I bounced around RSS clients in the early Mac OS X years, and certainly used Vienna for a while. It was noteworthy to me because it was open-source—something that was comparatively rare for fully featured, well designed applications on Mac OS X at the time. Congrats to all involved for keeping the project going for 20 years.
