It says a lot when you look at government decisions through this lens, because many politicians and political movements believe it. It showed that typical #socialmedia apps such as #Instagram, #TikTok, #YouTube, etc. on #cellphones conflict with a number of sustainability goals.
Among other things, they cause high #energy consumption, which is not incurred directly on the smartphone, but in #datacenters and transmission networks. A large proportion of the #electricity consumption is due to the fact that these apps do not respect #privacy and data protection, but instead spy on users.
The use of #Mastodon and other #Fediverse services is more sustainable because much less data is exchanged between users' smartphones and the service instances.
If Canadian democracy does fail it, it will be because of Canadian exceptionalism. Too many Canadians think we're not United States, it won't happen here. Our government wants you to ignore evidence you can see with your own eyes. They will tell you the United States is a safe country. They told you they stopped arms exports to Israel. The Carney bootlickers are even worse. Remember all the nonsense we got when #Carney ended the Minister for Women and Gender Equality?

@chris I am strongly opposed to this, as a Canadian. I morally object to using civil unrest to annex territory in this way. I also believe this would destabilize Canada, and even making the comments provokes armed conflict with United States. Our governments should be focusing on strengthening ties with willing partners, who share common values, and ending reliance on United States technology. Instead of provoking Trump, we should make it so Microsoft and Amazon can't shut down the government.
