a 13yo Australian boy initially kayaked & then swam for FOUR HOURS in choppy waters & then ran to raise the alarm after he & his family got swept out to sea on paddleboards & a kayak. his Mum asked him to try & raise the alarm because she couldn't leave her three babies alone. she kept the other two alive until rescue services found them all 14km offshore after sunset

380 people missing in the the #CentralMed
They drowned while searching for a safe life
An iron boat with 61 people, exhausted from being at sea without eating for three days, some of them with hypothermia, was found by the Italian Coast Guard on January 22nd.
These people faced a cyclone that devastated the coasts of Southern Italy, Tunisia and Libya, with waves up to 10 metres high and wind gusts up to 150 kilometres per hour.
Two one-year-old twins travelling with their mother have been lost at sea. Shortly after disembarkation, one man died in the emergency room. His name was S. Dembele.
We mourn S. Dembele, these twin girls, and all the around 380 people that left Tunisia in the same few days, in other boats whose fate we have no knowledge of.
What we do know is that people keep dying at sea, with the complicity and the policies made by Italy and the #EU.

very sad. this Maunganui campsite landslide site in New Zealand is now a recovery operation - it is extremely unlikely that any of the six missing (including two teens) are still alive. some bodies have been found under the carefully excavated rubble and authorities are working to identify them.

oh no. a weather bomb affecting parts of New Zealand led to a landslide at a Mount Maunganui campsite and several people - including children - are missing. also, two bodies were recovered from a house in Papamoa after it was extensively damaged by a landslide. Emergency personnel at the Mount say it's still a rescue operation, although no one has been heard from under the debris since the morning. 😔
