I don't understand how so many can be so enthusiastic about Visual Studio Code. I use it on a small C++ project (too lazy to install CLion and set up the licenses and what not) and every time I try to invoke completion I get this. It usually takes 5-10 seconds for the completion to find anything and often it finds nothing useful at all. It's slow and only marginally smarter than notepad.exe.

A few days ago I realized I could probably just use #KDevelop now that I use C++ instead of using #VisualStudioCode (code-oss) and suffering with its bugs, and yeah, it works nice. By default the text colorization is way too much for me, so I turned it down all the way to the left for both local and global colors (you have to tell it to use the color scheme colors instead of auto-generating them). I do like the Visual Studio highlighting though so I use the VSCodium dark theme.

Visual Studio Code – Sans AI

Recent conversation on #HackerNews [1] make be aware of an interesting setting in the Visual Studio Code. Namely the chat.disableAIFeatures which allows to disable all AI features [2] of the editor.

Not opposed to using AI assistance. I personally do use it as well. But I like to keep VSCode lighter and snappier for ad hoc editing as it is not my main IDE.
