IT'S BEEN A COLD WINTER...SO FAR:

With #warmer #temperatures finally in the #forecast, it's a good time to look back at the #cold #weather this #winter in the #Northland.

This included a recent stretch of low
#temperatures below zero that lasted roughly two weeks.

#wxtooter #wx #MNwx #WIwx #UPwx

When looking at the high temperatures in Duluth, Minnesota between December 1, 2025 and February 3, 2026, we see that 41 of the days have had their high below their 30-year average for the day. Just 22 days have been above average, with 2 days tying the average. The warmest it has been so far this winter is 43° back on December 16, with the coldest reading set on January 23 at -13°. The average temperature so far this winter after 65 days has been 9.2° in Duluth. That is tied for the 42nd coolest on record, with records going back to 1871.The second half of January was a cold stretch of temperatures, even to Northland standards. Looking at low temperatures across the region, and locations saw over a week's worth of readings below zero. They ranged from 15 days in Duluth, Hibbing, and International Falls, to 14 days in Spooner, 13 days in Grand Marais, 12 days in Ironwood, and 9 days in Ashland. For most locations, this was the longest stretch of consecutive days with lows below zero since either 2018 or 2021. International Falls was the exception, with last year seeing 15 days of below zero lows in a row.
