Citizens walking through a city’s streets for a few hours are variously an intolerable inconvenience or even a terrorist threat. But a noisy, polluting motorcycle race that locks down those same streets for days is a desirable activity. #SApol #auspol

Let’s be clear, people of Jewish, Israeli, Muslim, and Palestinian background all deserve universal human rights, and the safety that this implies.

But nobody deserves ‘cultural safety’ that impinges on the safety and rights of other people.

We live in a liberal democracy, where we recognise that ‘Your right to swing your arms ends just where the other man’s nose begins.’

The farwing’s use of ‘cultural safety’ is a misleading and malicious attempt to appropriate human rights/multiculturalism language, take it out of context and use it for their own self-centred purposes.

I hope involved people suffer consequences of defaming innocent people.

Not buying this Constellations "Not Writers Week" thing.

It's screaming a very white, very "no problematic people", event.

I'm happy to be proven wrong, but there's no mention of any non-white authors, no mention of inviting Dr Randa Abdel-Fatah, and a really weird line in their "Curatorial Statement": "We note that the right to
freedom of speech should never be conflated with speech that supports racism, violent ideologies and harmful narratives."

Now, that sounds a bit Mainauskas to me.

The best thing to do would have been leave the festival dead this year, out of respect for the hatred and racism surrounding it.

I get it puts "financial pressure" on authors, but that pales in comparison to the damage done to SA and the Adelaide Festival in general

The #Tooperang #fire near #MountCompass south of #Adelaide broke out on Sunday afternoon and has ripped through more than 650 hectares of grass and scrub.

Devastated local residents have spoken about losing their homes.

Isaac Selfe said his family #home of 20 years had been #destroyed, but he expressed relief that family and friends were not hurt. #Bushfires #SApol #auspol

The #Tooperang #bushfire near #MountCompass south of #Adelaide has ripped through more than 600 hectares.

The #CFS says the fire remains #uncontrolled, & is being battled by hundreds of #firefighters.

It says the full extent of property damage will become apparent throughout the day, but there are reports of at least one structure being impacted. #auspol #SApol #ClimateCrisis

And, as expected, the letter from Malinauskas interfering in the operation of the Adelaide Festival has come to light.

Cya mate, ICAC SA is going to go through you like a $2 curry

Screenshot from The Guardian Liveblog:

SA premier’s letter calling for Randa Abdel-Fattah to be dropped from writers’ festival released

A copy of the three-page letter sent by the South Australian, premier, Peter Malinauskas to the Adelaide writers’ week board regarding the inclusion of Palestinian writer Dr Randa Abdel-Fattah in the 2026 program has been published in full.

In the letter signed by Malinauskas and dated 2 January 2026, the premier says he did not believe Dr Abdel-Fattah’s inclusion was “in the public interest, in light of the Bondi terror attack”, citing comments reported in news media attributed to the writer to suggest that “her appearance runs contrary to current community expectations of unity, healing and inclusion”.

The premier cited “several public statements and actions that have been widely construed as antisemitic” to support his view, saying her participation was “likely to provoke disunity”.

I am of the view that the statements and actions attributed to Dr Abdel-Fattah go beyond reasonable public debate, being antisemitic and hateful at worst and deeply offensive and insulting at best.

It added that “behaviour and speech that is insulting, racist in any form, promotes religious discrimination or hate speech is never acceptable”.

My government condemns and rejects all racist or antisemitic behaviour, remarks or sentiment, including the above remarks and actions attributed to Dr Randa Abdel-Fattah.

[continues in next image]The letter claimed that the Adelaide festival board had concerns about the inclusion of Abdel-Fattah before the Bondi attacks, and pointed to the resignation of Tony Berg, a businessman and a governor on the Australia-Israel Chamber of Commerce in October over his concerns about the program.

That's interesting. People are pulling out of the wider Adelaide Festival, and quite rightly.

Adelaide is not a safe place for artists while Malinauskas is Premier

Maybe I'm bad at maths, but something doesn't add up here from Middle-Manager Malinauskas:

#auspol #SApol

Screenshot of text from an ABC article quoting Peter Malinauskas yesterday, then today:

"Can you imagine that as premier of this state I would actively support a far-right Zionist going to Writers' Week and speaking hateful rhetoric towards Islamic people," he said.

"Of course I wouldn't but the reverse has happened in this instance and I'm not going to support that either and I think that's a reasonable position for me to have. It's a view that I believe."

Today at a press conference in Port Augusta, Mr Malinauskas said he was not aware if a concerns notice had been received.

"Every step of this journey, all of my remarks and indeed actions, have been founded in a desire for compassion and people treating each other civilly and people will be able to judge my remarks on themselves," Mr Malinauskas said.

"All of my remarks and all of my comments are on the public record and people will see that they're founded in a place of compassion and in the pursuit of decency towards one another."

Randa Abdel-Fattah launches defamation proceedings against SA Premier Peter Malinauskas.

Yesterday, Malinauskas suggested allowing Abdel-Fattah to speak at the Adelaide Writers' Week would be the equivalent of allowing a far-right Zionist after murdering 15 people at a Sydney mosque (this hasn't happened, btw).

I love how the Adelaide Festival really think they can go ahead now, after the cancelling of Adelaide Writers' Week.

It's over, just cancel the whole festival, because people are not going to come.

There is no board to run it anyway, and I just don't see how they can legally run a festival with one director on the board.

Zionists killed another festival in Australia. Don't forget to write a thank you letter to the Ambassador for Israel
