@Daojoan The people propagating the inevitability of AGI or the permanence of the current LLM hype are just the current iteration of parasites who deliberately push every "next big thing" in ever faster intervals to profit off of it.
They manufacture volatility, brand it as necessary "innovation" or life saving "transformation" while selling imaginary products and services as solutions. They did it with #Apps, #Cloud, #Blockchain, #Metaverse, #VR and who knows how many technologies before quickly pivoting to the next. They have no interest in improving anything despite their bank accounts while making things worse for everyone else.
And still, nobody is able or willing to stop them...

That's a good question. Maybe slightly related to that, I've noticed in the past when I have (verbally) mentioned the "Fediverse", some people either straight-up thought they heard "Metaverse," or heard "#Fediverse" but assumed it was the same as the #Metaverse, or maybe a kind of Metaverse.

Granted, that has died down a bit, what with the Metaverse hype subsiding (the stans appear to have all moved on to "AI" now 🙂).

These days, I find that I typically just say "Oh yeah I don't use any of that [Facebook/Twitter/...] anymore because [insert reasons here], I'm on #Mastodon", and then follow that up with explanations about what that is, and related platforms, if the time is right.
