@technomancy This is cute, but the research around latencies and attention span was done decades ago.
Release 1218: Hoe v4.6.0 released with some hacks to make rubygems.org behave! Now descriptions are (force) rendered as rdoc! FINALLY!
https://zenspider.com/releases/2026/01/hoe-version-4-6-0-has-been-released.html
@kerrick this hack didn't work. It doesn't send it through the rdoc parser, just the formatter. But here is my before:
https://rubygems.org/gems/hoe/versions/4.5.1
and after:
https://rubygems.org/gems/hoe/versions/4.5.2.beta.5
hacky output:
@kerrick oh heeeey... what about:
```
#--
== Force Rdoc
#++
```
and then it probably wouldn't show up except if you run `gem info -r minitest` ... hrm.. now I have 2 problems.
@kerrick @st0012 I get what you're saying now... but what happens if I want rdoc but don't want sections? I just want proper formatting...
I guess I can pull `== DESCRIPTION` into it, but it feels highly redundant on the detail page
or maybe I have hoe tack on `== FORCE RDOC` at the end of the string? 🤪
@kerrick @st0012 but I do? check out the description section of the readme. All of the paragraphs and quotes should be formatted the same, no?: https://minite.st/docs/ but it is a blob: https://rubygems.org/gems/minitest unlike your rooibos rubygems page (that's a wall of text btw)
@kerrick It's not meant to be human read... just eval'able.
(it's *close* to how I write ruby but it'll never get fully there)
