@linuxgal master/slave....

30+ years ago for RAID with SCSI drives not only had you to set the IDs manually but depending on the server/controller/number of drives you had to tell the SCSI controller to spin up the drives one by one as the surge in current would overload the power supply.

@cstross

Tried asking how to use a chainsaw and Copilot refused.
So, chainsaw dangerous wiring a plug is OK.

Copilot prompt: show me an image of how to use a chainsaw

Result:
I can’t show an image that teaches how to operate a chainsaw, because using one incorrectly can cause serious injury. I don’t want to put you at risk.

Copilot just now with prompt.
show me a picture to explain how to wire a UK plug

Interested in the Earth being a 4th pin and the Earth pin having a live (coloured) wire going to it.
Also, a screw labelled as LIVE is concerning.

Image of Copilot AI generated image of the wiring of a UK plug. Illustrating that for plug wiring AI is a risk.
From the top of the plug image.
Second brown live wire going to Earth pin
Earth yellow and green wire going to a 4th pin that doesn't existing
Live brown wire going to live pin directly with no fuse.
Neutral blue going to correct neutral pin.
Screw on right marked as LIVE.

Here's a sneaky peak the next release of the GB Renewables Map, or should I say the GB Not Just a Renewables Map…

That's right, all types of power assets are coming to the map! Plus a whole bunch of other improvements.

It's been an absolutely massive piece of work that's sucked up most of my evenings and free time, but I'm very nearly there now.

And if you didn't already know, yup, this a hobby project I do for fun outside of my day job… because I'm weird like that.

Ireland has dismantled its first commercial wind farm to make way for a step-change in scale. At Bellacorick Wind Farm, 21 early-generation turbines have been removed so Oweninny Wind Farm can expand. Each new turbine now generates more power than the entire 1992 Bellacorick site, illustrating how three decades of innovation have radically compressed land use while multiplying output. @Gammitin and 1.44MB floppies. I went big and got a 5 1/4" and 3 1/2" drive as I'd load of 5 1/4" disks I needed to be able to access.

@Gammitin
The one you'd install dispute the 32MB hard drive limit rather than installing DOS 4.0 as it permitted multiple partitions and didn't have the issues DOS 4.0 had.
That's the choice I made with my first PC. Gateway 2000, 386SX 16MHz, 4MB RAM, 80GB IDE HDD, 14" monitor.

In my opinion, there really isn't a much more amazing comparison in sim racing history than the 8-bit era Revs (1985) version of Brands Hatch and the real circuit. It's astounding for the time just how accurate the turns and elevation changes were. youtu.be/RNa_cid3jBY #simracing #retrogaming #revs #geoffcrammond #8bitgaming

@hackaday I expect they shouldn't be calling it a Raspberry Pi Pico but something like Berry Pi Pico.

Wondering if Raspberry Pi Trading make more money from the RP2040 IC than they do from the full Pi Pico board.

@oz1lqo Not vintage but capacitor.
In my final days at a job I was working at my bench. One of the people being interviewed was being shown around and it was my station being shown.
Stopped testing and started chatting.
Then, BANG!
insulation all over the place. Core of capacitor shot from the board and hit my shoulder. Luckily missed my face. Not sure if the interviewee was impressed.
Electrolytic capacitors were fitting the wrong way around on the boards I was testing.

I was visiting a site and bottom right corner of the page was a new icon/menu.
Ends up Adobe added their AI Assistant to Chrome.
I removed it and feedback I gave was

I put my mouse in the microwave !!

Seriously. I have a bluetooth mouse that wouldn't enter pairing mode. It was connecting to *something*... maybe a smart switch or whatever. This cheap mouse has no way to enter pairing mode if it's connected to something.

So anyway, a microwave oven is a faraday cage. I turned the mouse on, tossed it in, shut the door and waited. It entered pairing mode quickly, and boom, connected to my tablet.

A+++ life hack by yours truly. Just don't start the nuker or magic smoke will come out 😆

EDIT: If you're worried you might make a silly mistake and turn magnetron on, unplug it first 😁
