This Red-shouldered hawk photo is my phone wallpaper. It’s two years old already, and a good reminder of the rarity of these types of close encounters, even though I do this all the time. Every time I meet a bird is special, but there are those moments that are truly memorable.

Previously trustworthy organizations are being neutralized or coopted by an unholy alliance of unaccountable billionaires, would-be fascists and imperialists. Constructive problem solving, respectful relationships and compassion are under assault everywhere. It seems the entire world is enshittifying.
