The "no-war" president sure loves wars.
Mostly chill person from Dublin, Ireland.

Politics = Punch nazis + Free palestine + Fuck capitalism + Democratic market socialism.
The "no-war" president sure loves wars.
I found an interesting use case for #Gridmap3D in #Godot as a sort of navigation map for seeing what sectors of space you've explored. Here's the result of a very rough proof of concept. With the ability to mouselook around it and set filters to highlight different sectors in useful ways it could be a nifty addition to the game.
@Siucraym @strandedoutput That's my long-abandoned lemmy profile!
I'm one step closer to procedural generation of asteroid fields in my game.
The asteroid meshes were randomised with geometry nodes in Blender then batch exported to Godot. I used an import script to apply my material to all of the asteroids at once. I was not going to do that for 64 individual meshes. With random scaling and rotation when they're instanced in-game it'll hopefully introduce enough variety.
Pretty happy with this!
I want to talk about this as someone who is Irish and lives in Ireland. I see a lot of people on Masto celebrating this scheme but context is important. Yes, it's a good thing but in the grand scheme of things it's lipstick on a pig. This government might like to trot out sexy sounding schemes that make us look oh-so-progressive but this doesn't make up for their many other failures.
@grau That's a great tip. I don't utilise shortcuts enough.
I'm looking for some sort of plugin or tool to help me organise my #godot project a little better. The problem I have is that even though my scenes and scripts are organised in folders I still have a bit of a cognitive speedbump finding what I'm looking for and visualising how different objects interact with each other. Any suggestions welcome! #gamedev
Just saw two pidgeons smooching. They were cleaning each other and cuddling and shit like that. It was oddly sweet. I didn't know they did that.
@AnarchoNinaWrites Seventy Five BILLION? Fucking hell. It's even worse than I thought. The GDP of a small nation for these fascist pricks to summarily execute people in the street. I just can't with this. I watched the Alex Pretti footage today and I started shaking. How casually they murdered him sent me into a spiral.
Keep doing what you're doing. It gives me hope when there are unapologetic, unequivocal voices out there.
I stand with the German sheep #flockpower
For fun I'm thinking of things for a TNG Bingo card/drinking game.
- Someone inappropriately flirts with Deanna Troi and she seems ok with it.
- Someone abruptly cuts short Data listing things.
- Riker summarises the conversation.
- Picard looks confused at pretty much anything.
- Wesley looks amazed at pretty much anything.
- Dr. Pulaski casually insults Data.
- "Magnify!"
- Picard randomly speaks French.
@xgranade Replying via a repost (hope you don't mind) but while the numbers are massively skewed in favour of Big Tech platforms you can still find many cool people doing many cool things on fedi platforms. There's also the massively underrated - but very close to my heart as an old bastard - method of finding IRL groups and events. I've gone to a few game dev events recently and had 100x times the fun I'd ever have had online.
@awfulwoman @linuxlads Although in the more recent years he's become more mature and less silly. Still very entertaining though. He's like the Irish leftist Joe Rogan now. He interviewed our last President and some say his interview helped get the current one elected.
@awfulwoman @linuxlads You're very welcome. He's an absolute legend. One of the best things our insane little country has ever produced. I still listen every Wednesday without fail.
@awfulwoman Also the Ferengi acting like coked up chimpanzees was hilarious.
@awfulwoman Ah well it's all part of the ride. The first 5 seasons of DS9 before the Dominion War were boring as fuck. Another surprise though is how little Wesley Crusher is annoying me this time around. As a new dad I'm like "that's a good kid you got there Bev"
@rottedmood It's not about smarts. It's about getting a grip on the mechanics. It's more of a grind lol.
I'm rewatching Star Trek: The Next Generation and I did not remember how janky the first season was 😂
@rottedmood Oh and set one of your Science ships to survey systems automatically
@rottedmood Pick a preset empire (United Nations of Earth or something vanilla like that) and when you don't know what's happening pause and look it up on the wiki. Pretty sure there's a beginner quick start article on the Wiki to get you up and running.
My tips are colonise three systems only initially then build up your economy, take systems that are "choke points" and for the love of god do not let it auto-build your ships.
