Just blocked threads.net after someone boosted a post from there that referenced a really hard paywalled article from a website I've never heard of before. Also, Threads, ick.
Inline skating the mean streets of NYC since 1993 and still alive to kvetch about it.
During the day, webmaster for some scientists, Java netCDF dataviz and cartography coder.
Otherwise, a Jack Methodist, somewhere left of center and (sigh) a recovering Idahoan.
Plus various experiences and opinions of no merit.

@capntransit It would be nice if people paid attention to tweets and toots that had no graphics, so no alt-text required. But sigh, alas.
@pseudonym @lzg No, that would be the Jerusalem Post and their weird habit of saying something is the same size as X elephants or Y penguins, or as you suggest Z giraffes.
Miami Skater Migration is over, but some skaters remain in Florida for today's (Tuesday) Homestead Ultra Skate, a "how far can you skate in 24 hours" track event (think 24 Hours of Le Mans, but y'know, in Florida). One skater from DC whom we follow on Strava rolled 300+ miles there last year. Looking forward to see the numbers that people post soon, including Allegra from #Brooklyn.
Out #InlineSkating #NYC on Thursday and observed three car drivers blow red lights, one of whom came damn close to running me down. I hope that police siren whoop I heard at Amsterdam and 96 was a cop actually ticketing that dips*t.
Jeepers, I'm watching "Big Night", and WTF, it's 30 years old? So all those actors and also me are now 30 years older? Oof.
@joyousjoyness I can only imagine (shudder) what it was like inside the daycare. If this was school kids, the teachers would have a serious union thing about class size.
@Kierkegaanks @nexta Where's the fun in that?
🤯 A visual physics lesson at 80 km/h.
Enthusiasts launched a man from a moving truck in the opposite direction - at the same speed the car was traveling.
The experiment spectacularly showed how relative speed works.
Backpat aside, OMG, so slow.
Late night coding session. Trying to figure out a workaround for plotting a very large (226 million) array of structure members without running into memory trouble. Somehow discovered a class hiding in the library API for getting the data in sections, and, WTF, worked on the first try. And memory error avoided, woot!
@jgordon Amazing movie, and of note see IMDb how that big scene full of people punching devices was staged. Forced camera angle with stage design, wow.
Also, one of my favorite Christmas movies, because yeah sure it's set during the season, but I first watched It on TCM on Xmas day, sigh, so many years ago.
@EthicalProfessor @benlockwood Scum rises to the top.
@dangillmor Once the UK's lease expired, it was simply a matter of time before Beijing demonstrated total control. Almost 30 years now, which, slow but inexorable.
@sundogplanets Looks like excellent inline skating territory.
It was too cold to go inline skate in #NYC today, so I got out the camera and wandered over to #CentralPark. Hadn't been in the park more than a minute before I first saw a red-tailed hawk. Then another. Here are two photos of the latter.
No, just a plain old TV (flatscreen but no internet connection) on which I haven't watched "over the air" channels in IDK how long. I did find the primary NBC channel, so now I just hope to catch races live rather than the cr(rec)ap mix that they air later.
Reminding myself how to watch over-the-air TV, because I ditched cable so many years ago, but the Winter Olympics are happening and I'm hoping to catch some #SpeedSkating
