I am an open source contributor to Rust (compiler and tooling), which makes Rust my most comfortable language, though I am experienced with other languages too. The LLM discourse on the Fediverse has really irked me the last few days.

Refusing to read writing made with the use of LLMs and refusing to give time to writers who use, promote or justify the use of LLMs is not purity culture, it's a boycott. It's a political act of withdrawing my time, resources and support for something that I find deeply morally wrong. It's protest. I have a choice and I refuse.

LLMs are exploitative, destructive, biased, mediocre parroting machines. Using them has a negative impact on the climate, the arts, the quality of the internet, the job market, the economy, the accessibility of electronics, even on skill development, creativity and mental health. LLMs are made and trained on the unpaid labour of millions -if not billions- of people who didn't consent. Their generic output litter the path to finding anything by true human creators.

Wherever I can, for as long as I can, I reject LLMs and anything that is related to them. I'm boycotting.

A member of my extended family is working on an Android app designed to provide good audio access to Project Gutenberg. To submit it to the Google Play store, he needs at least 20 testers to use the app regularly for 14 days. Testers can be blind or sighted, and both are wanted so their experiences can be compared. I promised to post about it here because blind users and champions of accessibility seem well-represented on the Fediverse, so please spread it around.

Hah, my pet trading bot that I set on an unsuspecting live service video game finally got detected.

Except instead of banning me, the studio implemented a new hidden multi-get API that returns less historical data with different in-memory caching of the history of items I'm regularly polling for so it's way faster and they've asked me to switch to that. I'm allowed to continue because it's helping to stabilise the game's commodities against market manipulation by groups of players. :3
