Listening to a 50-year old cassette on a Walkman from 1998… and it sounds really good.

In 50 years from now, will any of current streaming services still be around?

#Epstein

(Not sure of the origin of this but there's a good commentary on it here: mariatchambers.substack.com/p/ )

The fact that people need a dead man's files to believe a thousand living women...tells you everything about whose voices they value and whose they don't.

I'm proud of the work I have done at this place — not just the award-winning work, but the stories that spurred change, that were steeped in this beautiful local community.

“pandoc for the people”, the pandoc wasm web-app, is now available at pandoc.org/app/
It allows to run any kind of document conversion that pandoc supports in the browser. The documents never leave the computer, thus ensuring *full privacy*.
Conversions to pdf are done via Typst.

Decentralization shifts risk rather than removing it. Running your own services reduces dependency on platforms, but increases dependency on your own operational discipline. Backups, updates, monitoring, and recovery are no longer abstracted away.

What used to be handled by a provider becomes a set of explicit responsibilities. When something breaks, the cause is usually mundane. A missed update, an expired certificate, or a backup that was never tested. The tradeoff is autonomy for responsibility, and it is only obvious once you are operating the system yourself.

Research shows that different llm models come up with the same shitty stories, although very open prompts like “story about a dragon”

@PaulaToThePeople I'm testing Pachli after using Tusky for many years exclusively.

Except for the summarized boosts/favs, I think I may prefer Pachli: it seems to reliably remember the reading position which Tusky always f... up.

A 24-hour clock illustration depicting Earth's history as a single day. The clock starts at midnight for Earth's formation, with major events like meteorite bombardment from 12:00 to 3:00 AM, origin of life at 4:00 AM, oldest fossils at 5:36 AM, sexual reproduction at 6:08 AM, emergence of seaweeds at 8:28 AM, and mammals at 11:39 PM. Humans appear at 11:58:43 PM, just before midnight.

This guy named Ben Palmer made an "Immigration tip line" and people call it thinking he's ICE.

He records them and shares it with the world.

What do people sound like when reporting their neighbors, coworkers, students? Are they confident they are doing a righteous good thing?

Witness the banality of evil in these sheepish suburban voices.
