@jaz very curious how this concept progresses, and whether it could do used for smaller geographical areas in the future

@pvonhellermannn @markhburton @junesim63 have you tried suggesting a motion to be voted on at one of the next conferences?

@skinnylatte I've now added this place to my list to go to in London!

Yesterday's volunteer session, this time on the edge of the North Marsh Habitats Project. Work in progress on a rather damp day.
#HackneyMarshes

Various types of habitat under construction using scavenged and fly-tipped rubble and cut logs in an area protected by brambles and dead hedges. In the background volunteers at the outer edge of the area with woodland fringe behind. Very soft focus due to the rain.

@blog very interesting!

@Kimberley ahh. Yeah, I just put 2 pots that I drilled holes in in the ground with weighted lids on top to stop things getting in, but so that the worms can come and go as the please, and spread the goodness around the garden themselves.

2026-01-13

@Kimberley have you come across in-the-ground wormeries before? I set 2 up last year but have been rubbish at actually putting food waste in them!

Edit: I just noticed this is actually set in the ground!

From today's volunteer session in Wick Woodland, another standing log pile started on the edge of the area we've been coppicing this winter.

A standing log pile built around the standing stump of a felled birch on the edge of a glade of coppiced hazel and dead hedge habitat

@ReNatureLdn good to see it come together after having to leave early!

2026-01-08

@afewbugs yep, often

2026-01-06

@adamgreenfield @ReNatureLdn I've been to the last two, and going to the next two at least, they are great! Let me know if you sign up to one.

2026-01-06

@adamgreenfield on a separate topic, if you're ever looking for any local nature stuff to do then check out @ReNatureLdn. They are running a bunch of coppicing in Hackney marshes over the next month or so.

2026-01-06

@adamgreenfield yeah, you should give Islington Greens a go, I'm sure they'd benefit from your experience and lens on things.

Hackney does have the Mayor seat up for grabs, I'm not sure how much difference that makes to what they can do locally. I feel like I'm just going to be disappointed in how tied their hands are, but I think it'll be an interesting insight either way and inform future things, and a good active democracy experience to participate in.

2026-01-06

@adamgreenfield haha yeah, are you involved in any local politics? It's a new experience for me.

2026-01-06

@adamgreenfield @nick haha, no... I moved to a Welsh instance because I'm interested in moving there at some point and wanted to expose myself to some of the culture and language. Lived in London for the last 18 years, and in Hackney for the last 6 :)

2026-01-06

@adamgreenfield @nick looking forward to reading it, sounds very interesting
