@ctietze Days just creep up on you 🥲.
“You’re on the computer too much, go touch some grass”
“Aight”
Hold on to your computer hardware, it will never get as cheap as it was 6 months ago ever again.

This is why I am in a sort of controlled panic buying a PC now, if I waited another 3 months as I had planned, it would cost maybe twice as much. Getting some reasonably good, maintainable and upgradeable stuff.
@redstarfish Excellent watch! Had it for a few years. The only downside is that the strap wears out fairly soon. Had to change mine like 3-4 times for the 6 years I had it. I recently switched to the metallic cousin to the f-91w, the Casio A158W. Absolutely love the watch!
The control of the computer is getting shifted from you, who bought the computer, to the seller of the computer.
This should not happen.
You should be angry about this.
You should refuse to be controlled.
You should resist.

The best advice I have for new nerds: Refuse to pay rent.
Don't subscribe. Don't lease. Don't use their cloud. Don't slip down the freemium slope. Don't create accounts on their services.
Buy it once. Run it local. Avoid commercial software.
It'll be a huge pain and you'll be an outsider but it'll be endless, interesting, and hard fun that'll pay you back with a curious mind and an understanding of the fabric of our intellectual infrastructure that will make you light-years more capable, useful, and healthy than the "AI" zombies.
@ctietze That's fair. The auto parens one I can relate to although I've learnt to live with it. :)
@Pi_rat @redstarfish They claim it's for "security" reasons. Surely it's a coincidence that Microsoft has data leaks fairly often.
@redstarfish I quite like that mu4e and notmuch are so fast and emails are easily searchable. Unfortunately my work uses Outlook and has specifically whitelisted a select few email clients (Outlook app and thunderbird). Both clients' search feature is atrocious.
@ctietze I'm curious, on emacs were you using the regular keybindings? I switched to emacs from vim and can never let go of evil. To me, vim bindings are just better than emacs ones, even ergonomically.
@kickingvegas Ah, that's rough. :( I don't normally preview images within my org file because emacs becomes slow for some reason but maybe that has something to do with my emacs config.
Org mode 9.8 is out.
Announcement: https://list.orgmode.org/orgmode/87cy1xalan.fsf@localhost/
Highlights: preview API for all link types, C# support for org-babel, previews can be left/right/center-aligned, more flexible datetree captures.
Full list of changes: https://orgmode.org/Changes.html
We are looking for contributor stewards to assist with bugs and patches.
@kickingvegas What was the issue?
I hate soyjak memes but if you use Obsidian please stop using proprietary software and install GNU Emacs (for org-mode).
Tomorrow is the perfect day to throw your phone into the ocean and start a calm new life (I probably won’t but still)
@b0rk I know you said no emacs but I really like the in-built emacs package called `woman`.

Yet another reason to not use discord. At this point, we should all ditch Microslop services.
I saw this on a Finnish post, so let me reformulate it a bit and post it in English.
Finnish universities 1996:
"Here's an operating system we created for you. Here's a chat network we created you can use with the operating system."
Finnish universities 2026:
"We don't know how to replace Facebook for public communications."
Learned helplessness.
