AI Game Worlds and Humane Games

I learned about Project Genie and similar “world building” AI tools. While I suspect their best use will be generating slop for social media consumption, I take my critique as an opportunity to examine humane game development concepts.

I set up TOTP 2FA on the Itch.io account I used to publish my first visual novel a few days ago (see my pinned post for the VN). I ordinarily have no reason to take note of instructions for setting up app-based 2FA, but something in the Itch instructions caught my attention and led me to suspect that Itch has not touched the page in some time...

It's a weird feeling deleting actually useful comment spam left by AI bots.

2026-02-05

@perishable The English-language AI comment spam I delete from my Guestbook does not fall into the "useful" bucket, but this post inspired me to hope that all of the Russian-language comment spam I delete would be useful if I could read it.

We've teamed up with Automattic to fight link rot on the open web. Check out the new Internet Archive Wayback Machine Link Fixer for WordPress. The free plugin preserves pages, redirects broken links to archived versions, and helps ensure the web keeps its memory.

“It’s very important that websites have a memory," said Alexander Rose of Automattic. "When links go dead, in effect, the truth goes dead—especially in the age of AI,”

PS: While GitHub would usually not be my first choice, I couldn't think of a better place for a repository complaining about Bing.

2026-02-03

Back when NLJ was blacklisted by Bing for several months in 2023, I created a GitHub repository with stories/resources about Bing blacklisting. I have not thought too much about it since my Bing issue was largely resolved in August 2023, but I had cause to post my first update in years with Neocities going public with its own Bing ban.

Neocities' experience prior to going public is similar to my own... except I was responsible for one site, not 1.5 million.

RE: linuxrocks.online/@nafnlj/1159

I published an article about how I helped a woman move her car from a snowy parking spot in Brooklyn Heights the other evening. I did so because I have taken the very serious position on the NLJ that the most important part of being a hero is telling everyone about your heroic deeds. Thanks to Koko Analytics, I learned that the article has received a decent number of hits from "NewsBreak App." Great to see. I think my heroism is "newsworthy" (very impartial opinion, of course).

RE: social.emucafe.org/naferrell/s

I just read a Time Extension article about the Sega 32X version of Virtua Racing being decompiled. This made me feel special as one of the relatively few people (if 32X sales data is to be trusted) to have had a 32X and Virtua Racing in the 90s. As I note in a short ECS post, I discussed my Virtua Racing memories on the NLJ back in December 2024.
