In FreeBSD we only get 12.1.0 out of the box. Once you get floating point printing working in negative time I think we'll be able to get versions that haven't even been released yet 😉
Software developer since the mid-80s, looking forward to retirement so I can work on one or more of the BSDs.

It's just like Christmas, but better! (none of that religious or commercial stuff)
@geerlingguy
Rats, that looks fabulous. It also looks absolutely nothing like my Kia EV6 which is by far the most miserable UI I've seen in 40 years of writing software.
@vitaut
I too have embraced the fact that part of serving my feline masters involves providing them with upholstery which feels good on their claws. Funny thing is that my office, which is the only place they're not allowed, has no upholstered furniture.
@vitaut
Your furniture has the same texture fabric ours does. I wonder why...
@geerlingguy @StLouisBlues
Fun stuff, I saw several devices which are running software I wrote 🙂
@vitaut When you cross an octopus with a human.
@jimsalter
You're right, my take is singularly self-centered. I've not always been a selfish asshole and that I've gotten here is hard for me to wrap my head around. I guess I'm just too old to easily adapt to new social norms. I need to try harder.
When I chose my retirement date (end of May) I considered how a shitty economy would allow me to continue my donations to a dozen charities while allowing me to make one 2 week trip someplace fun every year. That's my version of greedy. I have a really hard time understanding how folk would want to be billionaires unless they had a huge number of charities they were passionate about.
@jimsalter
Please don't bring crowds here, I sort of like this quiet little corner of the interwebs. I go to blue sky for pictures of birds and here to satisfy my very few needs for social interactions and life is overall pretty OK.
@jimsalter
My partner and her family are all about FB so I occasionally get little snippets that leave me wondering why they put up with it. They don't seem to be any happier because of it. It would seem that "big social media" has taken over where "bit television" left off in terms of fostering schisms between people who would not naturally have that much dividing them. The common thread would seem to be advertising. It all makes me quite sad 😟
@jimsalter
That makes me very sad, I thought the Zukerberg properties were bad for my general mental health back in the day, I think this stuff would have pushed me over some edge 😞
Don't take it personally, but I'm glad that you didn't have the opportunity to share more detail here.
@jimsalter Jim, you sure do know how to party! I might have to resume FB after a blissful 4 or 5 years away. Or not.
@LikeItOrLumpIt
Oregon would love to see you!
@dexter This is the machine that makes me a living, I don't mess with it regardless of ZFS. I have another very similar system, tonight I'll see if it shows the same issue in which case I'm more than happy to mess with it.
@LikeItOrLumpIt
Unless you and hubs are just a couple of hours from heading to Oregon to visit us :-).

is still valid. I updated it to reflect that it exists in 14.3 stable since nobody cares about 14.2 stable any more. Fortunately this bug has zero side effects other than proving that there is something wrong, probably in the order in which memory is freed.
@grammargirl
Michael, never post until AFTER you have listened to the podcast. Lesson learned.

Unrelated trivia. What we call a piano is an abbreviation for "pianoforte" (piano=low volume, forte=high volume). The piano uses levers to move the force with which the player strikes the keys to hammers which "pound" on the strings. This means that the harder you press the keys the louder the sound is. The reason the instrument was called pianoforte is that this was a remarkable departure from prior instruments such as the harpsichord where a key-press caused a pluck of the string so the amount of force you exerted on the key made absolutely no difference to the sound volume. This is also true of instruments like the organ or harmonium where how hard you strike the key does not affect the volume. Unlike the plucked instruments, the organ and harmonium could alter the volume by other means (air pressure change).
@grammargirl In Italian, forte means either loud or strong. It is pronounced and spelled the same in either case.
@themaritimegirl
I'm pretty sure that's what they are, the pictures I found of the parts looked very much like what was in your video. One thing that backs my opinion is that the 6805 has some on-chip RAM and I didn't see any parts that looked like RAM on the board. I have been wrong before, why change that now 😉
