Using MC char mode and overlay sprites is exactly what we used for Sam's Journey on the C64. The mixing ability is what makes the MC char mode a very powerful mode.

@isaackuo @cobbpg You're correct about the native resolutions of NES and C64. I should have said something like "typical resolution" as most C64 games use the multicolor modes that effectively double the pixel width for more colors. The NES with its planar pixel representation, on the other hand, can play out its full resolution at all times.

@cobbpg That looks actually quite amazing! The NES has a higher resolution than the C64, but very strict limitations on how colors can be used. So NULFIX seems to be the perfect way to merge both systems' strengths.
