ssh is an obscure but widely-deployed command. It stands for Secure Snake Home and was made in the 90s to securely play snake online

I made a massively multiplayer backend for it with support for thousands of concurrent snake players

ssh snakes.run to join!

@DavidBridger I thought that had been deprecated?

@Phoibi oh No so it's yet another situation where I spent ages trying to find the right German word, but mittlerweile Germans just use English for it? #storyofmylife

I wanna look for a really comfortable couch type thing for my balcony, so waterproof. Every time I try to look though its either some horrible rattan thing, or made of palettes. What is the German word for the furniture I am looking for? And does anyone have recommendations?

It's too late to be pessimistic.

Even on linkedin, humans are starting to rebel against our AI overlords. Slowly one by one we either get overwhelmed or fed up with it. Has someone invented a name for this malaise yet?

@tante i watched a video yesterday which talked about ai and the industrial military complex, that shit is really terrifying and I want nothing to do with it. For SURE ai is being used in war machines, isn't this the point where we were supposed to pull the plug?

2026-02-18

@tante I'm also really frustrated. It's constantly in my face. I console myself with anti ai content, but it's all so bleak. Can I work in the tech industry without having to deal with it? Seems unlikely. I'm also waiting for it to fall to bits. I don't even care how bad the fallout is anymore. Just make it stop

I can't stop thinking about the LLM-generated compiler that passes all the unit tests but emits inner loops that benchmark over 150,000x slower than a gcc debug build. I couldn't possibly have intentionally come up with such a funny demonstration of the point of genuine expertise harshanu.space/en/tech/ccc-vs-

Whatever the output gains promised by LLMs, their initial productivity surge is erased over time, and replaced by heavier workloads—and that leads to workers experiencing “cognitive fatigue, burnout, and weakened decision-making.”

There are so many brilliant fascinating creative useful things in the world to do with tech but they are overshadowed by the all encompassing shitiness of "AI"
