Rust, Python, Lua, and JSON. This is all I ever need. If I need more, I do not.
Hi! Name's Aster. I am an aspiring geologist, do stuff with PostMarketOS, and pretend I have any understanding of the Linux kernel. I also like Halo and Kingdom Hearts. Apparently I mainly work on porting iPhones to Linux now.
Luddite.
Bump into lamps by night.
Will not boost without alt-text.
Be compassionate when its hard, don't censor yourself, and wear a mask!!!!
I take follow requests and basically the only thing you need is a PFP and a bio.

#feedbackd (together with the device themes and #rust bindings) moved to https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/feedbackd/ . Many thanks to the fdo maintainers for having us!

As a free software maintainer, this is entirely unacceptable. Now I have to spend time figuring out how to tell AI agents to *fuck off* so I don't have to deal with this.
@cas When I was a kid I... uh... I knew what a "code" was. Its how robots work, right?
EU Parliament 🇪🇺 votes to accept a report, that calls for "the full recognition of trans women as women" as part of the EU priorities for the UN CSW (Commission on the Status of Women) on "women’s rights and gender equality."
It's easy these days to forget that there are places and organisations outside the UK and US that don’t despise and want to destroy trans lives

I should finally get around to customizing my helix keybinds to fit colemak-dh. It works fine as-is, but that's only because I usually use the arrow keys to navigate.
postmarketOS FOSDEM 2026 and hackathon recap
@janvhs Niche opinion, but if a toml file gets complex enough to need to be formatted, I usually think its best to convert it to a more robust structured data format, like json.
Otherwise, I recommend the prettier implementation.
@Natanox Its genuinely infuriating, especially when they try to avoid keywords on purpose. And of course they don't put a content warning, why would they?
Heads up for edge users: we briefly had a version of mkinitfs (2.8.0) in edge that didn't generate proper boot images for OP6/6T, FP5 and Pixel 3a, resulting in boot failures. This has been fixed in mkinitfs 2.9.0 and boot-deploy 0.23.0. (This is a good example why the hardware CI work is so important.) So I just learned from one of my friends ðat ðis is a þing. I don't know its name, nor do I really understand IPA to be properly using it, but I þink its kind-of cool. Ðe difference between «eð» and «þ» in ðe rules I was told are hard to differentiate honestly. Ðe voiced vs unvoiced «th» doesn't feel pronounced in a way ðat I can really figure it out. I'm sure ðat over time ðe difference will become easier, þankfully. I do þink I'm going to end up using ðis in personal manuscripts ðo.
@navi I get that feeling...

The Open Source Lab is on the move!
Moving a data center is about more than just hauling servers—it’s an opportunity to modernize. We’re raising funds to cover the critical extra expenses incurred during this transition, including new high-speed networking equipment, remote management tools, and hardware upgrades.
Support our student-led team as they build a faster, more resilient network for the open source community.

@navi I feel like that's a human problem in general. There are a lot of things that could be great if we consolidated around them instead of fragmenting work. This is one thing I envy about the BSDs...
@navi Well, my thing is that people want an alternative now, and shiny new thing is more attractive than thing that already exists sadly...
@navi The only thing missing from IRC is the ability to remember messages on a server. I *highly* doubt non-technical people coming from Discord would want to setup a bouncer or deal with all the commands. People take the path of least resistance, which will probably be some other proprietary chat service because they offer the best UX.
@weirdtreething With a few patches, apparently yeah. There was an issue about it not compiling with Alpine and one of the devs created a patch to ifdef gate glibc stuff and I just had to forward-port that patch. I haven't tested it fully yet though.
