Loafy elephant seals at Pt. Reyes. The noises they make are so very silly; I encourage looking up a video if you've not heard them before. #california #nature

Booping around Puʻukoholā Heiau National Historic Site. I really loved how excellent the visitor center was; the staff were very kind and knowledgeable, plus there were a bunch of kids there doing their Junior Ranger badges, which is usually a fun time. #hawaii

I was so excited to see the fish whose name I was most excited to memorize when I was a little kid – humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa. However, on later inspection, this is actually Rhinecanthus aculeatus, and h.etc. is Rhinecanthus rectangulus. So, dang. Here's a fish I still liked seeing anyway. #hawaii #nature

My wife and I got this retired rental van incredibly cheaply at auction when a company which rented them out went bust. It has travelled a mere 338k miles / 544k km :D I'll generally just keep mention of it to my website, but it's been a lot of fun doing a low budget interior remodel – and we just finished our first little test trip, to Point Reyes. Mostly I just like that it's cheerful. It was painted by an artist in LA named Haste.

Walking through the Kīlauea Caldera. The plume blocked some of the sun, which was fortunate as otherwise all the black rock would have definitely made it a bit unpleasantly hot... #hawaii #nature

The waterfall at 'Akaka Falls State Park. It's not ginormous (about 135m), but the perspective of being reasonably close to level with the *start* of the falls is a nice one. #hawaii #nature
