Meta’s decision to drop fact-checking raises serious concerns. Social media platforms connect families across the globe and shape how we consume information. Yet, by abandoning fact-checking, Meta risks turning these connections into channels for unchecked misinformation.
Community-driven alternatives, like Community Notes, have flaws: They can be biased, lack expertise, be manipulated by certain groups, and fail to address misinformation in a timely and consistent manner. This seems like blackmail—we rely on these platforms, so we’re expected to accept this.
Fact-checking isn’t about politics—it’s about truth. Let’s demand better.
