From a recent post looking for PhD theses databases across Europe, I got lots of boosts (thanks) but only returns from very few European countries. So I wonder : how many active scientists (lets say having published one peer-reviewed paper in the last five years) are on mastodon from the different EU countries ?
Pools only have 10 choices, so more countries are in the next post 🙂

In the latest development version, JabRef now supports multiple citation fetchers/providers, including SemanticScholar, @crossref @opencitations and @OpenAlex

And at the bottom we provide some additional metrics from scite.ai

@Frau_Ilka JabRef wäre hier natürlich auch eine Alternative, zwar primär auf wissenschaftliche Literatur ausgelegt, aber Bücher kann man dort auch über ISBN hinzufügen.
Und Buch Cover können auch mit angezeigt werden (das Featuer ist allerdings nur in der Entwicklerversion vefügbar)

Just noticed Digizeitshcriften, a digital repository of European journals, has shut down with no successor. They'll arrange downloads with interested parties through April, but presumably they will be unavailable afterwards: https://www.digizeitschriften.de/page/faq

Much of what was on the site is public domain in Europe (and might or might not be public domain elsewhere), but they also had more recent content available from some publishers. I hope other sites will make available what they can without paywalls.

[Bibliography + software] The new version is out: it has been released end 2025 (on December, 26th, a Friday)!
It's biblatex-software, for "citing software with style" in your #bibliography.
Because software matters, and source code is a quotation!

Here is a late present for you: We just released Version 6.0.alpha4.
This release contains a couple of UX improvements, a handful of new features, and the usual bug fixes.
A brand new feature is now the support for date groups based on any date field. Also supports year, timestamp fields, etc.

We know that there are some #emacs fans among our followers. We would like to see a blog article about using JabRef's #LSP server with Emacs as a client. The LSP server covers the integrity check and consistency check of #JabRef.

Thanks to the cool feature of #javafx called the `shortcut` modifier, we can now display and handle the keyboard shortcuts in a more OS independent way.
On Linux and Windows `cmd` key will be replaced with ctrl automatically and option key with alt.

@zimoun We also got spammy proposals this year and currently also AI generated pull requests; it will probably be worse next year, but we also heavily rely on automated workflows for (self)assigning and unassigning people and reducing the mental overload of human maintainers.
