The lobster moth (Stauropus fagi)

Named for its lobster-like larval form, this wide-ranging insect might be spotted in parts of Europe or Asia. It lives in woodland and deciduous forest habitats, where it munches on the leaves of various plants. While it resembles a crustacean, it can also mimic ants as a way to deter potential predators.

They chewed a hole in their tubing again. But, I found it at last. After sealing it this ant returned with a bit of cat food, she's waiting to be let in.

I moved her in by hand.

I have placed a test tube with a wet cotton ball near the hole. They will gather in there as they return and then I can dump in all the escaped ants at once.

There is something so endearing about how she's still holding what she found. Still so focused on bringing home something amazing for her sisters.

In my adult life, I have not had the privilege of being in the timezone of my actual birth. I am happy to say that at Midnight CEST, I will be turning a new age (I am not ready to admit to Mastodon my age) and I am equally pleased to say that I finally live, again, in the country of my birth.

The truth is that society needs to develop ethically and ecologically more than it does technologically. That's not to say that we should shun technology, but our development along other lines lags far behind our technological capacity.
