Iโm so delighted with this wonderful and insightful review of #IntoTheFaerieHill by brilliant librarian Veronica Price.

โInto the Faerie Hill is a uniquely immersive blend of fairytale, folklore and eco-fiction, which thrums with the powerful magic of the natural world.โ

Susie Dent and I are kindred spirits. I love words almost (maybe not quite) as much as she does, and I wish I were as knowledgeable about them as she is. I had to pre-order her new children's book for my students to bring some new joyful language into the classroom.

@lorywidmerhess Same here!
@yatil Thank you!
@Rackuur @neilhimself Perhaps. I just didnโt discover them. Anyway, I found Astrid Lindgren, Michael Ende, C.S. Lewis, Ursula K Le Guin and others early.
@Rackuur @neilhimself I grew up in Denmark and (unfortunately) only discovered her books as an adult. I donโt think Iโll ever get too old to enjoy them, but reading tastes are of course subjective. The best childrenโs book are for everyone!
@podperson @neilhimself True. I loved Famous Five as a child, and there are definitely issues with those too when we look at them now. The quote is from DWJโs talk: A TALK ABOUT RULES. Itโs about the goalposts for childrenโs books (and adult fantasy) moving all the time, and how she keeps experimenting, while sticking to a very few principles, the first of which is in above quote. Highly recommend reading the whole thing.
@daniel Thanks! I used a Powerpoint template because Powerpoint happened to be open on my computerโฆ Happy with the result.
I'm re-reading REFLECTIONS by Diana Wynne Jones and re-discovered this quote about the responsibility of writing for children. I could not agree more with this quote and the wisdom she shares in these essays and talks.

@neilhimself
I wrote #IntoTheFaerieHill during several lockdowns, where I was hiking in the local forest & imagining faerie creatures. After I told my talented illustrator friend @pandalightbringer about it, he presented me with this drawing of me and the creatures.

Isn't it beautiful?

New Guy Here Introduction:
I didn't read books as a child, I found them hard work & boring.
Then Jeremy Brett's Sherlock Holmes appeared on TV & this 15-year-old was hooked. I wanted more so I got this book and, without noticing, became a reader.
It wasn't just because of the mystery or the characters, it was that these were SHORT STORIES. I still remember the huge sense of accomplishment after finishing a whole story in a single session - check out the proud tick marks next to each story.
@tracyh we were luckily early. Have you ever been to Hoher Kasten? The views are amazing!
@FleurHitchcock so am I!
@tracyh so nice to see the sun today, right?!
