Passion, awareness, clarification and a good dose of self-humor are what we need now, to navigate what lies ahead. Let’s talk about it openly, so we can take the best from both worlds and give our best back into them.

Ultimately, I don't think it's the changeover itself that hurts. It's the speed. It creates a kind of thin corridor where many so-called shortcuts are currently being taken that are not really shortcuts at all. Outcomes and effects will simply be different. Efficiency is increasingly confused with impact. And a fast world rarely takes the time to reflect.

Or will they decide that the fast food way is good enough? Right now, it feels like two extremes are forming, both quick to question each other. It is precisely these high-friction times that invite us to take a closer look at our own work. What does my work actually contribute? Where does it truly become less or even more relevant, and where is it simply a matter of smart fine-tuning between human and machine?

Between clarifying and redefining designers' processes in a time of AI speed
A personal reflection

As a designer, I currently find myself, like many others, caught between what felt like normal just yesterday and what is suddenly everywhere today, on everyone’s lips and screens.

Will AI trigger a shift that actually feels good for me? Will my clients continue to value the quality of my work, the thoughtful DESIGN PROCESS (see fig.)? Or will they decide that the fast food way is good enough? Right now, it feels like two extremes are forming, both quick to question each other.

It is precisely these high-friction times that invite us to take a closer look at our own work. What does my work actually contribute? Where does it truly become less or even more relevant, and where is it simply a matter of smart fine-tuning between human and machine?
