It's the start of a new academic year & many are developing & updating their teaching materials!
To inspire some content & activities, I've compiled my lectures, seminars, & workshop materials on an OSF page, across UG and PG levels!

๐จโ๐ซ Calling all teaching staff in higher education to complete a short survey! ๐ฉโ๐ซ
๐ญWe want to hear your thoughts about the necessary characteristics of teaching research methodology in higher education.
๐ This will allow for sharing best practices and the design of educational interventions.
The survey should take <5 minutes to complete if you are not involved in teaching research methodology & <15 minutes if you are/were involved.

Thank you!
๐ค I've found my annual conference ๐ค
Arrived for the first day of SIPS; feeling extremely grateful to be here in Kenya, and looking forward to meeting lots of people who I've worked with for 4-5 years now but never met in person!

Chapter 5 of my book "A Student's Guide to Open Science: Using the Replication Crisis to Reform Psychology" is now open access via PsyArXiv! ๐
This chapter is arguably the most important: a hands-on guide to implementing open science in your workflow! ๐
Come and do a fully-funded PhD with Dr Daniel Shaw, Prof Steve Mayhew, & meee at Aston University.
The social brain: investigating the neurocognitive mechanisms supporting social interaction
Deadline: 1st June 2024
Our #qualitative #research on applied researchers still needs a #reviewer or two - you can sign up to @pcirr to help review and if our project doesn't hit your spot, there's loads of other great #RegisteredReport looking for helpful #researchers #feedback. Invest your time in a brilliant research community who cares about research quality...
@ThomasRhysEvans @pcirr haha sorry Thom, I hadn't seen this until now so it was truly coincidental!

Thanks to everyone who has bought a copy of my book this year, "A student's guide to open science: Using the replication crisis to reform psychology". ๐๐๐ฅณ
I'd really appreciate it if you could leave a review!

@purplepadma hello, I sure am, and thanks for mentioning it! I've posted this here, too.
๐จ Research Study ๐
We are exploring researcher's awareness & engagement of #OpenResearch / #OpenScience practices. If you are a researcher, from any academic discipline, from any part of the globe, please consider filling in our ~5 minute survey.
@koen_hufkens it's not that "the burden is put onto students"; I am teaching them about this because they are the grassroots who represent our future. If we teach them about our history, then can ensure history doesn't repeat itself. We cannot *not* teach them about the replication crisis when it's hiding in plain sight.
@deboraha thank you, Deborah; this is excellent (and so nice) to hear. It not being an OER is my biggest bug bear, so I've worked with the publisher to reduce the pricing. As I say, if anyone has trouble accessing it, they can contact me and I will help!
My book is available on the McGraw-Hill website and the code SGOS20OFF will bring it to ยฃ16. I fully recognise that this book is not an OER; if you have any trouble accessing it, DM me (without explanation) and I will send you one of my copies.
Chapter 6 then concludes with a look towards the future โ seeing the crisis as an opportunity. It includes an excellent quote from @ianhussey about seeing the crisis as a โcall to actionโ.
Chapter 5 puts these practices into practice with top tips for each open science practice. It includes researcherโs self-reported mistakes & solutions in open science to reduce barriers to uptake, & is written in the style of an โopen science buffetโ (credit to Christina Bergmann for this amazing term!).
This chapter also exemplifies how open science can be easily integrated into psychology teaching & learning through a โconsortium approachโ to the dissertation process. It ends with a crossword; a crossword!!
Chapter 4 introduces students to open science practices such as preprints, preregistration, registered reports, open materials/code/& and wider behaviours such as inclusivity. Did you know that registered reports were introduced in the 70s?
Throughout the book there are pedagogical activities that can easily be embedded within teaching, such as an activity on โspot the questionable research practicesโ.
