Drawpile development update for the last two weeks: docs.drawpile.net/devblog/2026

There's now a project statistics dialog that tells you how long you've worked on a picture and a way to make timelapse from within Drawpile. These features both fall out of the new project file format, along with autosaving.

You can also now assign canvas shortcuts to arbitrary actions. For example, pressing themiddle mouse button to switch to the eraser or undo.

Drawpile development update for the last two weeks: docs.drawpile.net/devblog/2026

Mostly more work on the new project file format, which integrates with the new autosave/autorecord mechanism.

And also several workarounds for Xiaomi devices on Android that are shared with Krita again.

Drawpile development update for the last two weeks:
docs.drawpile.net/devblog/2026

The main topic is autosaving (or really auto-recording), which is now available for testing in the alpha release. If you want to know more, there's also a talk from last year's Libre Graphics Meeting about where that's going: media.ccc.de/v/lgm25-upstream-

Otherwise, there's some Android fixes for devices that act weirdly there, which have been committed to Krita as well.

Drawpile development update for the last two weeks: docs.drawpile.net/devblog/2025

Topics are a rework of the settings interface speeding up build times by a whole 10% and progress on autosaving. Or really, autorecording, with every brush stroke saved immediately and possibilites for timelapses, tracking time spent actively drawing and a few different kinds of time-travel.

Drawpile dev update for the past two weeks: docs.drawpile.net/devblog/2025

Many changes, such as:

- User interface improvements, shared with Krita.

- Several quality of life improvements to the timeline to require less clicks and allowing fractional framerates.

- Preferring WebSocket connections by default, since they are more stable than raw TCP and give server owners the ability to use tunnels and proxies.

- Several bugfixes and smaller features.

Drawpile development blog for the last two weeks: docs.drawpile.net/devblog/2025

It contains some ideas for the ongoing work to add animation cameras, which would be nice to get feedback on or ideas for while it's still cooking.

Other things include:

- A better transform mode for hard-edge, binary brush art.

- Server management improvements, particularly for large sessions.

- Even faster reconnects that don't ask for credentials again

Drawpile development update for weeks 36 and 37 of 2025 is out: docs.drawpile.net/devblog/2025

Only a relatively small update, but there is a major new feature, particularly for people not on the desktop application: fast reconnects, without having to sit through the entire catchup sequence repeatedly.

There's also some smaller fixes and macOS-specific things.

Drawpile 2.3.0-beta.3 is out: drawpile.net/news/release-2.3.

This is mostly a bugfix release for a weird Windows-specific issue where playing a sound could cause drag and drop or file dialogs to stop working.

One small feature did make it in: pixel art input. It bypasses stabilization and smoothing to let you poke pixels directly.

Take a look at the guide on the new features in 2.3: docs.drawpile.net/help/common/

Drawpile's donation website has been updated to make it clearer where the money goes and letting you clearly pick between recurring and one-time donations.

Take a look and consider donating to help keep the servers running and development going: donate.drawpile.org/

And of course shoot any feedback you have, especially if something isn't clear or doesn't work.

The Drawpile logo and a donate badge next to each other. The Drawpile logo is a representation of Earth in light blue with two brushes in the middle painting strokes around it, with text next to it reading "drawpile" in hand-written text, "collaborative drawing" in all capitals below. The donate badge is also light blue, with a heart icon on it and the word "Donate".

Another feature in the Drawpile 2.3 beta: a lasso fill tool.

It works similar to lasso selection, but for fills. Useful for quick coloring.

It even lets you use the stabilizer and smoothing options that you can use for brushes.

The feature is backward-compatible, so you can use it in sessions hosted with version 2.2.

The beta is available here: drawpile.net/news/release-2.3.

A new feature in the Drawpile 2.3 beta is "pixel-perfect" pixel brushes.

Normally, single-pixel brushes can end up with lines that are two pixels wide in some places, due to L-shaped connections being made.

With pixel-perfect turned on, those are eliminated those lines will always end up being one pixel wide.

The beta is available here: drawpile.net/news/release-2.3.

And here's an illustrated guide of the new features: docs.drawpile.net/help/common/
