Fan of wit, science, logic, tech (day job). Enjoyed fact based debate when it was a thing.

The “strangler” pattern is named after a tree, not an act of violence

Meetings by chance.
The only kind I like.
@atlefren
Bra poeng.
Mens vi klager ;) Jeg blir litt irritert på tid vi må bruke på locale-aware sorteringsbiblioteker bare for å alfabetisere.
@atlefren
Eller ….
(forbereder meg på din vrede)
En sjarmerende levning fra en gal tid med «vi gjør det på vår egen måte». Ikke ulikt nynorsk.
Do you remember France TV's “Tokyo Reverse” experiment?
Blog post here to talk about this film and its virtual reality aspect:

Crazy dialogue!
Setting: Game developer engineering meeting in China.
Engineer 1: Can I write it in C?
Engineer 2: Stop with the C.
Engineer 3: JAVA is the best.
Engineer 4: It’s fine. It’s not a huge issue.
Let’s end the meeting.
🤣
Then …. All meeting participants smile, nod, and agree without further comment!!!
Not one of those lines could ever happen as written IRL.

Meeting by chance is no

Jeg tror flere NO/SE/DK hjem mente at purreløk var en erstatning for hvitløk. Husker sterke reaksjoner på 90-tallet som sa at det var et «forferdelig, illeluktende, fremmed krydder».
Stopped for the gulls swirling delightfully in circles overhead.
Seagulls are protected in Norway, earning plenty of contentious opinions I care not to engage. Yesterday they were beautiful. #photo
Federal judge has ordered the release of Liam Ramos (the bunny hat boy) and his father from U.S. immigration detention. A brief and rather remarkable order. Clearly written to be shared widely, so please do. https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.txwd.1172886492/gov.uscourts.txwd.1172886492.9.0.pdf
How to make your home more thrilling
“The names are wild”, my sister remarked as she scanned the submitted resumes. She began reading them aloud and slowly:
“ …
- Cyre
- Margarita
- Celestial
- Chardonnay
… “

This one beats them all and it’s going to make me laugh until tonight:
“I’ve been assigned to carry out a penetration test on a server you manage. The test will be performed from the outside, since the perimeter security needs to be assessed. In order to perform the test, I therefore ask you to disable any firewall, protection, blacklist. If any of these are in place, the server might not be reachable and could prevent the assessment.”
I had to read it three times just to make sure I’d understood it properly.

First thought: You are being punked.
Second thought: The topic is Typography
(And for the love of God ignore anyone who's telling you not to use Signal right now, every alternative is meaningfully worse for the vast majority of people)
A few weeks ago I posted an ad looking for a large tripod to better support my new 8x10 camera. A fellow responded from a town about an hour away. He said he had a “comically large” tripod that should work.
I WAS UNPREPARED
Pictured: An average sized human male with a comically large tripod.
Tomorrow I'm manning a door at a Non-Fic Festival for the Writers' Union. Serious business: they've told me to wear a suit jacket! I usually only do that when serving as a layman judge or at funerals.
#Fashion historians, take note of this data point: 53-y-o man in 2026 with Leftie opinions and a halting academic career believes that the suit jacket is an alien thing, associated with businesspeople and politicians. Not to mention the necktie!
