Spending most of my social media time these days not here, but rather at:

• Bluesky (politics and general fare): bsky.app/profile/cfoh.bsky.soc

• Facebook (special-interest groups and friends & family)

• Reddit (special-interest groups)

I still think my favorite SM platform so far has been Google+ ... it had great features and a terrific community (and politics weren't as toxic then). I don't think we'll see its like again any time soon, if ever.

A special free screening of the documentary Still Working 9 To 5 will be available nationwide, presented by the filmmakers, the League of Women Voters, ACLU, and others. This screening will feature a welcome message from Dolly Parton and a taped Q&A featuring the filmmakers and activists from the women's rights movement exploring workplace equity, the Equal Rights Amendment, and civil rights for women today in the United States.

@TomWellborn I'm not sure that's not also mostly true of our modern banking system, though. And I say that as a crypto skeptic.

@pzmyers "If it came to that, I’d be on the Canadian side of the fight." Yup.

@eblu Good advice as long as my fun doesn't come at the expense of other people's fun.

If we treat the world like a zero-sum game, instead of the "raise all boats" opportunity it mostly is, then we risk devolving into a truly toxic and dysfunctional society.

@cbischoff
Thanks for reminding me I had other clients available...been using Fedilab for a while now. And yes, both Mastodon and Moshidon offer link previews...wonder why Fedilab doesn't. Maybe a setting? Must dig in now. Tx again.

Not having some kind of link preview function is really unfriendly and greatly harms the platform's user experience IMO.

I'm increasingly reminded today that
it is rarely wise to give important jobs
to those who want them the most,
because those who want them the most
are almost always not those
who can do them the best.

@kbeninato I still am completely dumbfounded by the federal court decision (at least one...maybe more than one?) that declared things like the Ten Commandments and the slogan "In God We Trust" to be NOT a governmental endorsement of religion. What the heck else would you call that??

@WarnerCrocker Because sending in a frothing-at-the-mouth Christian Nationalist to get an extremist theocracy to back down from ethnic cleansing seems like a great approach. Won't be inflammatory at all. /s

I'm glad #BlueSky exists as a place for folks to switch to from X with the main emphasis being to make that switching cost as low as possible. As a model, I don't think it's a good one -- it's another for-profit that inevitably will go down paths that run counter to public interest.

Continuing to build the fediverse will take longer and be more difficult. When folks who just made the switch to platforms like #BlueSky are ready to build a lasting alternative with us, we'll still be here.

@badlogic
I've been very impressed by Microsoft's Surface Pros the past few years.

@TruthSandwich that would fall under clause (b) above

I'm going to try a new approach to life: Don't worry about things changing unless either (a) it's my responsibility to manage whatever is changing, or (b) the net result of the change is overtly and obviously harmful.

Am curious to see if this lowers my overall stress. After all, change is inevitable.

@markmetz And I'd hate to have family in Taiwan right now. :-(

@RenewedRebecca Literally the definition of "survivor bias."

The propagation of "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger" is another manifestation of this effect.
