@flipper @infobeautiful my first long distance flight was Copenhagen -> San Francisco. 11 hours of midday sunlight 🥲, given that we started at 11:00 local time and arrived at 13:00
tomorrow (2026-02-18) will *most likely* mark the last TLS renewal for The ARPA Zone, as CA/B has explicitly prohibited cert issuance for *.arpa domains, effective 1st of March (see https://github.com/cabforum/servercert/issues/153#issuecomment-2625717318 for context). I'm writing "most likely" because for all I know the cert may fail to renew tomorrow already - who knows!
Pessimistic instance EOL: tomorrow :neocat_googly_woozy:
Optimistic instance EOL: ~2026-05-19
preparing for the pessimistic scenario, i'd like to thank everyone for all the jokes and fun times here. o/
HDMI is always a pain to debug, so I am looking into measuring cable performance somehow.
Has anyone build a HDMI to Coax adapter board that I can use together with a VNA? I am thinking of having two of them, one on each side of the HDMI-Cable.
Is this a stupid idea anyway? What are your thoughts?

Has someone experience with getting employed through Deel Inc. as Employer of Record or getting employed by a EOR in general in Germany?
Retoot welcome.
So the mysterious person behind archive.today is very likely to be "Masha Rabinovich." A 2023 investigation from Jani Patokallio theorized this much
However recently a few things happened over the past few days. A HN user noticed that archive.today visitors are being used in a botnet staging a DDoS attack against Jani's website, and Jani has received a bogus C&D.
Who was the HN user who noticed this? Well... 🧵
Is there a name for data structures with a table of contents?
I'm writing a blog post about serialization formats with bounded and unbounded traversal.
My unbounded example is JSON, where you have to parse each piece to find its end.
The simplest bounded example is a zip file, where you read the table of contents at the end, and can immediately find the offset of any particular file.
I'm describing why it's 'faster' to read one particular file inside zip vs JSON.
Is there a name for this?
This is actually from my NAS, since i can't keep everything around even on my desktop anymore /o\
