@letsfindaway I’ve gotten snapper to see the system as ambit and successfully say it rolled back but after the restart I don’t see the default boot entry or the snapshot id of the good writable snapshot it just made…

2026-02-07

@thedoctor I can get into a snapshot and set a new default. But when trying to boot into what the bootloader thinks is the default or even the latest I set as the default new default, it’s all still a snapshot. I can do work and operate but any new install or trying to upgrade it’s all read-only still.

2026-02-07

There’s no default option upon boot. Everything is a snapshot…. So then everything is read only and then can’t get updates done or install new software. Just about to the point to reinstall. Except I do have a separate /home but the installer wants to overwrite it still… seems like a bit of a mess.

Well this stinks... #openSUSE Tumbleweed is stuck in a snapshot and can’t get it back to a writable place to get back to normal life…

@rl_dane there’s also a difference in the Copyright vs. Copyleft. There’s a really interesting documentary I saw back in college about this and the music industry specifically. Music is almost worse than film. There’s only so many notes, chords, combinations and the legal side that tries to balance it all together…

@rl_dane Alex Honnold. He’s a free solo climber who got famous first for his climb of El Capitan in Yosemite park a few years ago.

Climbed the entire building and mountain face without ropes.

It was crazy seeing him stand in the top of the sky scraper!

@hyde Sure! What do we need to do?

I think the text is from my about page, right? I had an old boss write a bio for me way back when and I updated it a little at one point, and could have missed the change between 1st and 3rd person in the text. I'll get it updated one day soon.

@rl_dane @joel Oh my, dating myself here... We had to cut the video, splice, and render the final version. I choose this movie because I could not find a trailer anywhere at the time. Part of the project was to create a trailer for a movie that didn't have one, or you wanted to remake for a reason like the original gave too much away, a different take, explained the movie more, etc.

If you're so inclined, there are a few other videos too I was a part of.

@joel this is such a great movie. I had a film class in college and a final project was to remake a movie trailer and I chose Back To The Future.

@rl_dane It's all shiny now, and the rabbit hole keeps going. I keep finding things to make, but don't have a printer yet. I do think I'll get my money's worth either way. I need to do more research into the printers now than just what to print, but that is easier said than done.

2026-01-18

@rl_dane I’ll definitely take all the suggestions before making the investment

2026-01-18

@rl_dane I haven’t made any real decisions yet. Only glancing at brands now. A friend at work has a Bambu Labs and another has a Flash Forge printer. Costs and where it’s going to live at home is a big deciding factor too.

There’s just so much we can print and have fun with. The world is endless now!

@dmoonfire @rl_dane @amin @krishnadraws Well this is true, just didn't want to get too technical. $HOME/.local/bin would be the best place either way for these kinds of executables.

@rl_dane @amin @krishnadraws

I've used app images and put the directory in my $PATH and launch it via the command line. Since it is a compiled single file - in its own way. Most of the app images I used are command line tools though.

Seeing more and more adoption for uv in the #python community. I've used it some and should probably go more full in to really get a grasp on it. Still funny how a Python dependency manager is written in rust instead.
