Sean Randall

I work for a national telecommunications company to help ensure accessibility across web and mobile. I code for leisure, fun and accessibility.
I geek out on sci-fi movies and am constantly reading.
I enjoy the odd game here and there.
I watch comedy with my wife, horror with my daughter, and more serious scary stuff with the dog.
I listen to classical when working, and scare off cats to pop, showtunes and country when tidying.

I'm always bemused when I come across the keycap emojis for numbers(3️⃣2️⃣) rather than the regular old boring numbers (32). All that extra work needed to find numbers when they're standard things on every keyboard, for what? A slightly fancy design? The wonderful* bonus feature depending on the screen reader where numbers are read out like "key cap three, key cap two", and the fact that you can't read them on braille displays? Obvious improvement right there I'm sure you can agree.
I've just seen a blindness org use them to pretty their social media post. You'd think they'd know better.
*not wonderful at all.

Just had a sighted person tell me they often use features, clients and programs that were made for us, they don’t use screen readers, but they use accessibility features, even when they do not have disabilities, but also clients like a blind Mastodon client, or a text editor designed with screen readers in mind such as the ones I list on my Tools page at the end, as an example, because they said, the interface is 1000 times cleaner, there’s a lot of keyboard shortcuts, clutter free interface, even though the UI is basic, speed, less bloat, and a whole host of other things including, but not limited to, and never having to put up with distracting animation nonsense. You know software development has vastly sank in quality when sighted folk are using blind clients. To see the tools and stuff I use, go to sightlessscribbles.com/tools/ #Programming #Software

@TheQuinbox I remember being promised by a retiring computing teacher that, after i'd moved on from BASIC to complete a GCSE in 2004, I'd be able to use a language that let me write all my documentation inline, as code comments.

Toddler pokemon

Tweet by user Butt Praxis @buttpraxis:
A small toddler is the closest thing
you can have to a Pokémon. It
follows you around, you love it dearly,
no one else can understand what it's
saying, and it is obedient only when
it wants to be. The main difference is
that training it to fight other toddlers
is frowned upon

My washing machine doesn’t need Wi-Fi.
It's a feature that I would regret.
I just need a way to wash my pants.
Not show them to the Internet.

My oven doesn't need Wi-Fi.
I'd value that least of all.
It's already shielded from getting too hot.
It doesn't need another firewall.

My fridge does not need Wi-Fi.
That is just not useful for me.
I want a place to chill my food.
Not chat via TCP/IP.

aww man, not Dan Simmons as well? Another sci-fi pillar.
Sad news for all the #bookstodon followers out there today.

Dan Simmons standing in front of a stone wall. He has white hair and a beard and is wearing round glasses. He is dressed in a light blue button-up shirt over a pink shirt. His arms are crossed, and he has a watch on his left wrist. The bottom left corner notes "Source: Hachette Book Group."
