I know it’s bound to happen and that I cannot control my customer… but lying and saying the cost of shipping was more than the item and giving me 4 stars? It wasn’t. The item was $28 CAD and shipping to the U.S. is flat $19 CAD (I make maybe $1-2 labour off shipping fees per U.S. order after raw cost is factored in.)

My heart is sad.

Okay, heeeeelp, how the fuck am I supposed to upload almost 230k photos from iCloud Photos to my NAS?

• Keeping all metadata and original files (HEIC, HEVC, HEIF, etc)
• Keeping live photos videos

Considering that:

• Without using immich app because it's buggy as fuck and completely shits itself after a few uploads thousand
• Without using the nextcloud app because it removes metadata from videos when autouploading
• Without using iCloud Takeout because not only that separates all metadata from the files with the sole purpose of making your life harder requiring some script to fix which apparently only works on mac, but also that would require me to download God knows how many zips from Apples website totaling almost 3TB

Someone help should I just accept that I'll just lose 230k pictures because no one seems to make a software that works properly???

@linux_mclinuxface it seems from everything I’ve read about this that it’s been very methodical, almost procedural. Like they intentionally didn’t ask certain questions along the way, and have been precise (with surgical precision almost) in their language, while being vague with their (imho, word salad) intentions.

I’m also American, so I hear ya about the U.S. vs Canadian systems.

More news out of Alberta, this time more drama at the U of A: They’re axing EDI in their hiring processes. This comes only 6 years after implementing the policy, and one year after renaming it to ACB (Access, Community and Belonging). They’re the first Canadian University to do this.

“I do believe that there's been pressure by the government on post-secondaries to abandon EDI policies,” Gotell said. “Because it's not really clear to me why we would be abandoning a framework that we just put in place six years ago.”

To be crystal clear: There was ZERO notification ever received in our inbox. Not the server email, nor my personal email accounts.

When I contacted you about problems with the instance, my email inquiry was addressed to the prior owner. I had absolutely ZERO idea anything had changed with our services.

Whatever you did to ‘notify’ users was poorly executed. It was not in good faith.

We should have been able to verify if we wanted our instances in another owners hands and be given a period of time to move our services if we did not agree.

Fast forward to January 27th, I was met with zero technical support response when I emailed you - until over 300+ people boosted my post about my hosting problems. You finally replied to me once the prior owner reached out to you.

This is not my fault, it sits squarely on you. Please do not contact me again, I am no longer your customer and do not wish to discuss this any further.

This is my nth attempt at staying on #Mastodon, after leaving Meta, X, and related noise.

I work around (dual-use) #technology and #ethics, mostly from my hometown, #Barcelona, and sometimes from the Italian Alps (a long love story).

I don’t have a clear plan for what to do here.
Maybe existing, slowly, is already doing something.
Perhaps I’ll post occasionally — or not; who knows. I might leave again after a while.

I love #philosophy, sacred places, reading both digital and paper #books, and listening to #music — all day long.
