My wife is a 3rd grade teacher in Crawfordsville and they're closed for the 3rd straight day. Tomorrow looks to be the same temps.
I run a regional instance, so the first thing I do is check if the IP is in the state. While that isn’t foolproof (VPNs), it catches the sign-ups that come from foreign countries and require an additional level of skepticism.
There was an instance called mastoadmin.io for this express purpose, but I think it closed down last year.

For these abandoned accounts, I first sent an email (included in the JSON output) saying "please come back, we miss you!"
Waited a few weeks. Ran the process again, and emailed saying that they would be Suspended if they remained inactive.

TBH, I didn't see it move the needle a ton but maybe it slowed growth rate a little.
