Just loaded slashdot - the site threw an 'error' and cheerfully guided me how to solve the problem by disabling all my ad and tracked blockers.
Never going there again. What a shame
@cstross
Like the difference between being a kids father and their dad, you are not a scot, but you are Scottish. You are what you do
(Edit : typo fixed late enough to be irrelevant)
I've just hit point where I realise my grand part organisation plan is going to end up with a parts case dedicated to the spare deviders *just in case* I ever need to change absolutely everything.
i built an entire x86 CPU emulator in CSS (no javascript)
you can write programs in C, compile them to x86 machine code with GCC, and run them inside CSS
@mcc @bmartin427
Bah. Thank you
@16af93 I love that 'thorn' is still knocking around in keymaps. The 'th' in 'the' looks wierd when it's þhere in a sentence, but is essential for my favourite smiley :-þ
@farah
Sorry, trying to apply levity where it's not wanted. Some people will take against not through fault of your own but fault of their own, and though it can hurt when their poor treatment of you is the side effect, it is not your fault. Do not feel you should try to appease them, they have already made that a metric they don't want you to suceed
@mcc @bmartin427
Can one block Copilot in the same manner?
@farah Explain you're their mum and you love them and they will put their socks in the wash dammit
@bellinghman @jezhiggins @cstross
But in a way, it's ours.
@davidgerard
Hell yes, but you're going to have to wait for my wages to land
@farah 8ndeed and sorry respectively.
@farah She was so thoroughly eclipsed by Kat Dennibgs it was almost unfair. I love the What Ifs where Darcy got married to Howard The Duck. That felt more real than anything in Love and Thunder

Serif'd and yet it'll change your reading speed. And you said dark fantasy, so it's calling out really.
Sorry, double checked my references. This was my core, I misread some vehemence for hate. https://www.theregister.com/2026/01/08/linus_versus_llms_ai_slop_docs/
Since then he's playing with vibe coding in a limited, and most importantly, nowhere near the the kernel. This is in keeping with my own experience that it can be useful in small and limited use cases, but for me at least the real world costs massively outweigh the minor convenience.

Sorry, should have checked my receipts before running my mouth.
