@MelkyWay it’s a cheap trick to play but if it gets me the farm and reduces the amount of terrible apartment buildings in my home region, then I’ll play that card lol

@MelkyWay one big thing I have going for me, which some people might see as minor but I hope you understand, is that I'm the only grandchild who has the family name as their last name. And in my grandparents' region, that last name carries a lot of weight, history, reputation. etc.

For now, I'm working on my grandmother to just keep saying "I'm the only one not planning on profiting off your death" and hoping that changes her mind.

@MelkyWay the conversation I had with my grandmother about why I think I should inherit the largest remaining portion of the farm (and also the farmhouse) was literally just "I know I'm not the oldest grandchild in the hierarchy, but I am the only grandchild whose intent is to keep the farm open and not sell the land to property developers the second that you're dead". So fingers crossed for me on that aspect of the family legacy.

@MelkyWay much of my childhood comprised was the split custody of working on my mom's farm versus waiting around for my dad while he was a plant pharmacology adjunct at UF.

So adulthood for Jack has become inheriting his portion of the family farm and trying to get a PhD in his actual field so then he can go work in the field that belongs to him...

@MelkyWay when I told my chair I wanted to do a PhD in agribusiness administration rather than straight line business administration, he asked me what the difference between the two programs was curriculum wise. And I was like, "both teach the exact same topics, but one is in the context of a farm and the other treats every product like it's on Henry Ford's assembly line".

I’m in an MIS/ISM course write now that’s like a law/policy/theory class on how we’re vibing on data management governance now that AI has entered the chat. And I just, in the second sentence of the first paragraph of an essay, snuck in a reference to IBM, Space Odyssey, 1984, Alien, and Star Trek.

The most “gay, but working class gay” thing that I do (and there’s a lot because I’m a butch) is that I don’t drink coffee at like designated coffee shops. Instead, I drink gas station coffee because the store in my neighborhood also has a hot cocoa machine. So in weather like this, I go in and make a bastardized version of a mocha latte. For $1.50. And the best part - it’s good coffee!
