@DaveLiddament @m1ke @mnapoli hmm, "value" is a funny word for it.

Try this: every time you use an LLM, imagine you just cut down an ancient oak instead. Yes I know they're not equivalent, but it reminds of the cost to humanity.

If you don't give a shit about trees, maybe imagine all the stolen works that LLMs were trained on. That could've been your very own content, stolen without asking, and currently raking in billions for other people that aren't you.

I’ll be available for new projects from the beginning of April 2026. Now felt like a good moment to share this and start connecting early.

My main areas of expertise are TYPO3 and PHP, with a strong DevOps mindset β€” helping teams streamline deployments, improve stability, and deliver with confidence. I enjoy working close to both code and infrastructure to make sure solutions are robust, efficient, and easy to maintain.

If you’re planning a project, I’d be happy to connect.

Many devs use Laminas and Mezzio, but unfortunately few contribute behind the scenes. We have stepped up, so you should too!

Today’s Follow Friday is @OndrejMirtes β€” his work on PHPStan to help with static code analysis has pushed PHP forward immensely. I met him briefly at phpday a few years ago where he was completely amped up after having given a talk.

It's a little frustrating when CFPs you apply for don't respond with even just something quick to say "sorry, you weren't selected". e.g. I've got a lot of trips to organise, and when I apply to speak at a conference, I clear my calendar for that conference, so it's a bit rubbish for submitters to not let them know IMO πŸ™„

A moment that perfectly captures what I love about the PHP community. πŸ“Έ

This photo taken by @asgrim evokes memories of an afternoon at @phpday when @GeeH, @ocramius, @rob, @ciaran, and I were deep in conversation about mutation testing and property-based testing.

It's the combination of collaboration, great discussions, and socialising that makes conferences like this special: you come for the talks, but you stay for the hallway track and the friends who challenge your ideas and help you grow.

@jrf_nl nice one! I was 50/50 on using JS vs a Composite action, great to see things in the other direction too 😊

@edorian yep the action tests itself in test.yml

Even researching this stuff, a lot of the content I found was just as complicated as the GH template. If a newbie is presented with such a vast amount of information, they might never bother learning (or worse - resort to using an LLM). The point of the post was to focus on answering that one specific problem, without any cruft.

I answered Tim with a quip, because I wanted to remind him I was being light-hearted but perhaps it was misplaced.

@edorian my repo has automated testing and a lock file? Sure I left out CS/Linting and stuff.

But it's more of a comment on the sheer number of files to do something very basic. When a newbie comes to look at that, it is overwhelming and probably enough to make some newbies not even want to learn.

@timwolla woah, I just looked at that repo and my eyes glazed over at the number of files O_O I was really trying to keep it extremely basic in the post.

Why use just 6 files when you could use 21 πŸ˜‚
