They went and did it. My trust in my favorite team is broken. How could they trade this beloved DP? I've been mad at them for various decisions they've made over the past three years, and now I am just absolutely furious. #MLS

OMFG If #STL actually trades #Klauss to the #LAGalaxy I will burn my Klauss jersey and start rooting for #KansasCity again instead (and I don't LIKE SKC!).

Galaxy are my MOST despised team in #MLS. I've disliked them from the minute I started watching MLS back in the 1990s. Boooooooo!!!!

This would just prove that we're living in a wacky alternate universe where nothing at all makes sense.

(Yeah, you can tell from this toot that Klauss is my favorite player.)

@bodhipaksa This is frightening to hear. I'm glad you've got neighbors to help and plans for you and the kid.

I don't know if it'll help, but there is a new app on both the android and the Apple Store called ReadyNow. You set it up so that you can just open the app and hit a button if something bad happens to you, certain people get emailed with instructions like feed my cat or call my lawyer or whatever.

I hope you keep checking in with folks here, too.

Hey y'all, wanna know what a disgruntled baby owl looks like?
Well, someone opened the refrigerator near Beans. This is his disgruntled face.
Ruffled is a good word here.

#BakedBeansOwl #Owl #Owls #Zoo #screechowl

Beans standing on a leather glove. He is quite ruffled. His ear feathers (did you know owls have movable ear feathers?) are sticking straight up and the feathers on his face between his eyes and around his beak are also sticking straight out, long enough that it's kind of hard to see his beak. He's staring intently at something to the right of the camera. He clutches a small piece of meat in one claw.

@confluency thank you for the details! I have been wondering how these were made, having seen them somewhere else online. I appreciate you writing this out. Very cool!

I recently found out that you can make boxes from dried citrus rind. This is a traditional Italian craft originally used to make snuff / tobacco boxes out of bergamot orange skin (the outside goes on the inside, and the contents pick up the scent of the oils). You can use any citrus fruit with a smooth rind (I mean, in principle you could use something wrinkly, but it might be harder to work with). I made these out of ruby grapefruit.

The procedure (aggregated from multiple online sources):
1. Halve the fruit (from pole to pole, not across the equator, so that you don't end up with a flaw right in the middle of each half) .
2. Eat the contents with a spoon.
3. Remove the membranes and carefully pick off most of the pith.
4. Soak the empty skins in hot water with a little baking soda for about half an hour.
5. Invert and stretch each half carefully over the base of an appropriately-sized jar, and use some rubber bands to hold the edge in place.
6. Wait until dry.
7. Apply a few layers of paper mache to the outside of each half to strengthen the box and reinforce any cracks, and wait until that dries.
8. Trim the edges to make them even.
9. Optionally sand the edge and outside lightly, and paint / further decorate the outside.

More details based on my experiences so far:
* If you don't have two jars that are conveniently sized to give you a base and lid that fit together, you can wrap a taped loop of cardboard around one of two identical jars, to provide extra space around the rim of the lid. You could also do this only when adding the paper. I don't recommend trying to reshape one half while it's half-dry; that's a great way to tear it.
* Make sure you put the halves back on their moulds to dry, or they will warp.
* You can use a warm iron to smooth out wrinkles in the paper mache.
* I used tissue paper (split into layers) and a blend of wallpaper paste and white wood glue for the paper mache. The glue doubles as a finish.

More info in descriptions.

A closed round red box with a large rose printed on top. I used the centre of the print on a decorative napkin as the final paper layer on both top and bottom. The same box partially open. I added a lip to the lid only when I was adding the paper mache, but now that I have the cardboard spacer I can try to mould the skin over it next time. To trim the edges at various stages I held a pencil parallel to the table while rotating the jar to mark a cutting line. The interior of the box is unfortunately very discoloured because I experimented with the procedure and bruised the skin. For the record, if you keep most of the pith, the skin gets very wrinkled when you invert it (for what are in retrospect geometrically obvious reasons) and it's difficult both to un-wrinkle it and to scrape off the pith after soaking. For comparison, here are the little bowls I made first. I wasn't able to turn the halves into a functional box, but I did a much better job of cleaning and inverting them. Third time lucky, I hope -- next time I'll try to photograph the steps.

I know everyone is telling us to rise up and do something, probably something I myself have said to people in other countries, but no one ever says exactly how it should work. For example, does anyone think that the people in Russia like Putin's dictatorship/oligarchy? It's terribly oppressive, yet they don't rise up and overthrow the despot. They are very spread out geographically. They've protested, but they just get thrown in the gulag. They do not hold economic or political power.

People have also not risen up in many other countries, or they have tried and failed (like in Turkey). The people of Hungary are probably well situated to overthrow OrbΓ‘n, yet he is still in power. It definitely looks like Iran is having a revolution, because those folks have nothing left to lose. I know I was devastated when the Arab Spring did not work. Remember how many people were involved in that? It was not for a lack of trying.

From what I can tell, you have to get the military (and police, if possible) on your side. Economically shutting down the whole country would definitely hurt ourselves, but the ultra wealthy can always wait us out. It's so frustrating. Most U.S. residents live paycheck to paycheck. Honestly, I need help figuring out what to do. I already protest and put pressure on elected officials. I'm sure everyone from the outside looking in would like to see us all in the streets, but without military support, it's a Tiananmen Square situation. I am willing to die for the cause, but it needs to bring about change.

So when Trump decides to go get Greenland he’s just going to fly in and kidnap our prime minister. Great. You have a unscrupulous and clinically insane idiot elected as your president and he wants to own the world. I have absolutely no trust in any of you Americans whether you are pronounced MAGA or if you β€œdidn’t vote for the guy”: Your elected president is a megalomaniac dictator and it’s your fucking responsibility to stop him.

Well, shit.

Not the news that I wanted from #StLouisCitySC.

I wanted them to retain Critchley as head coach!

Sigh.

I guess we'll see how the fourth year goes, then. 😞

I remember when #Messi arrived in the league: players seemed honestly afraid to get near him, touch him, or foul him (especially never knocking him down).

That has definitely changed! #MLS
