Sigh.

2) “Can it help us make decisions?” — when presented with some equally good sounding options our mission should help provide direction. Which filters out a lot of generic platitudes that don't help anybody say "yes" or "no".

Once more being amazed how many mission/vision statements fail two simple tests:
1) Would a competitor have written this? — because if our mission & our competitor’s mission are functionally identical it probably doesn’t need saying (which helps us focus on why we are doing a thing specifically). I still see so many "vision" statements that are simple restatements of "more money" or "more customers" that fail to give any direction. (1/2)
