If you use AI-generated code, you currently cannot claim copyright on it in the US. If you fail to disclose/disclaim exactly which parts were not written by a human, you forfeit your copyright claim on *the entire codebase*.

This means copyright notices and even licenses folks are putting on their vibe-coded GitHub repos are unenforceable. The AI-generated code, and possibly the whole project, becomes public domain.

Source: congress.gov/crs_external_prod

Excerpt from the linked document. It reads "The AI Guidance states that authors may claim copyright protection only “for their own contributions” to such works, and they must identify and disclaim AI-generated parts of the works"Excert from the linked document:

Three copyright registration denials highlighted by the Copyright Office illustrate that, in general, the office will not find human authorship where an AI program generates works in response to user prompts:

1. Zarya of the Dawn: A February 2023 decision that AI-generated illustrations for a graphic novel were not copyrightable, although the human-authored text of the novel and overall selection and arrangement of the images and text in the novel could be copyrighted.

2. Théâtre D’opéra Spatial: A September 2023 decision that an artwork generated by AI and then modified by the applicant could not be copyrighted, since the applicant failed to identify and disclaim the AI-generated portions of the work as required by the AI Guidance.

3. SURYAST: A December 2023 decision that an artwork generated by an AI system combining a “base image” (an original photo taken by the applicant) and a “style image” the applicant selected (Vincent van Gogh’s The Starry Night) could not be copyrighted, since the AI system was “responsible for determining how to interpolate [i.e., combine] the base and style images.”

Don't anthropomorphize LLMs, language is important. Say "the bot generated some text" not "the AI replied". Use "this document contains machine-generated text" not "this work is AI-assisted". See how people squirm when you call out their slop this way.

I’ve seen a lot of articles and posts about AI that use the term “like it or not” as in “like it or not, AI is here, and we might as well get used to it” and that is such bullshit.

Like it or not, ableism is here… like it or not, racism is here… like it or not, fascism is here.

No, fuck that, I will resist. I will speak out. I will fight back.

You do not have to roll over and accept the shit corporations and the existing power structure try to force upon you.

We can build a better world.

Web design in the early 2000s: Every 100ms of latency on page load costs visitors.

Web design in the late 2020s: Let's add a 10-second delay while Cloudflare checks that you are capable of ticking a checkbox in front of every page load.

It feels like developers are currently split into two groups that do not really understand what the other group is talking about:
One group tries to reduce their dependency on Big Tech by switching to alternative search engines, code forges, map providers, operating systems…
And the other group is trying to increase their dependency on Big Tech by adopting agentic and/or vibe coding.

@europlus
I also recently bought a Mac Mini M4 which had Tahoe installed and downgraded it to Sequoia, via DFU mode from a Mac Pro 2013 (using Sequoia and Apple Configurator).
Now it's fine :-)

All of that AI slop money could have gone to installing equipment for safe air in schools, hospitals, and public transit, powered by renewable energy with minerals mined by people receiving fair wages in a much safer workplace.

We could have avoided the high death toll of COVID and prepared for the next pandemic.

Instead we get even shittier code, abuse images, far-right bots, dodgy tech in healthcare, and even more precarious state of things for artists.

I've been working hard on Reconnect (my modern Psion connectivity suite for macOS) over the past week-or-so, adding support for Quick Look previews for Psion's MBM image files and backups.

I saw this on a Finnish post, so let me reformulate it a bit and post it in English.

Finnish universities 1996:

"Here's an operating system we created for you. Here's a chat network we created you can use with the operating system."

Finnish universities 2026:

"We don't know how to replace Facebook for public communications."

Learned helplessness.

If you’re an developer for Apple’s platforms and were wondering where you rank in their list of priorities consider that they were apparently capable of writing docs and adding meaningful Xcode integrations all this time but they decided to do it to help AI models instead of you

Does anyone remember the goings-on of the IFNA -- International FidoNet Association? If you do you're old (or will be soon after learning about it).

It left little record. It was a debacle, in the end, ruination brought on by certain folks in the late 80's trying to enshittify the FidoNet, to pervert the poorly-defined-but-well-meaning IFNA into a means of control, to pay to play to be in the FidoNet nodelist in classic manner -- free for everyone! for now, then as we add unspecified features, we may ask you for a small fee... etc.

It was terminated, with lawyers and votes and proxies -- at a big St. Louis FidoCon -- and I flipped the table over in the church (more or less) and that was that, kinda sorta (we made some enemies).

It was all very awful, and I kept literally no record of any of what happened. THere's not even a wikipedia page.

So this is a shot in the dark -- if you have, or know anyone who has, any record of that fateful FidoCon I'd greatly appreciate it.

So, if AI is so clever, and BitCoin is so valuable... why don't we just ask AI to generate BitCoin for us?
